Quick on the heels of Yamaha unveiling the new Tracer 700, a Vietnamese media house has speculatively rendered a smaller version of the bike based on the Yamaha MT-03 streetfighter. Rumoured to be christened Tracer 300, this semi-faired model will be the entry-level bike in the manufacturer’s touring motorcycle range.
Aesthetically, the Yamaha Tracer 300 seems to borrow all the major design cues from its bigger siblings. The aerodynamic semi-fairing gets a tall windshield and a twin headlamp setup to improve its touring capabilities. The raised handlebars, seat and the sculpted fuel tank should offer a comfortable riding position. A majority of its components from the rear section, suspension, brakes and the exhaust will be shared with the MT-03.
The Tracer 300 will be powered by the same 321cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine from its streetfighter counterpart. Delivering 35bhp and 22Nm of torque, the engine is mated to a six-speed transmission. Though the Tracer 300 and MT-03 should be on par in terms of performance, better aerodynamics should help the faired motorcycle achieve a higher top speed.
Though Yamaha has so far given no indications of launching this motorcycle, it does seem like a very appealing motorcycle. Though it won’t have the off-road capabilities of a full-fledged adventure bike, we can expect it to be an ideal motorcycle for Indian road conditions, thanks to the raised suspension and better ground clearance.
