- It was sighted near Chakan, Pune
- Yamaha is unlikely to launch it in India
- The company plans to focus on higher-capacity bikes
Yamaha’s entry-level dual-purpose bike, the XTZ 125, has been spotted testing on Indian roads. Sighted near Chakan, Pune, the photo of the bike was shared by an Instagram user.
It is highly unlikely that Yamaha is testing and preparing the bike for its India launch. The company has recently clarified that it will be focusing on premium motorcycles only, including models with the engine capacity of 150cc and above. Also, the market is not flourishing for such entry-level dual-purpose motorcycles in India. Which means, the bike we see in the picture might be a test mule being used by a manufacturer for component testing or benchmarking.
Talking about the bike, the Yamaha XTZ 125 looks to be an enticing machine with adventure-centric components and styling. It gets long-travel suspension and spoked wheels that are shod with dual-purpose tyres for efficient off-roading. It features a high-set front mudguard, flat seat, minimalistic body panels and tall stance, all of which give it an athletic appeal.
Powering the Yamaha XTZ 125 is a 124cc, four-stroke, air-cooled, SOHC engine that churns out 12bhp of power at 8,000rpm and 11.6Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. It rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel that are suspended by telescopic front forks and rear monoshock. The seat height is 1,115mm while it weighs a minimal 118kg.
