The Yamaha YZF-R15 was recently launched in Indonesia for 28 million Indonesian Rupiah (Rs 1.47lakh). The much-awaited motorcycle has been introduced in the South Asian market with a few changes compared to the one sold in the Indian market.
Yamaha will assemble the R15 in Indonesia. As reported earlier, Yamaha has collaborated with Bussan Auto Finance to provide prospective buyers with different finance options including easy monthly installments where customers can avail a loan varying from 11 months to 35 months.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 is available in three colours- Racing Blue, Supernova Red and Midnight Black. The gold-black colour that was recently launched in India will not be made available there. The bike boasts of front telescopic forks and a rear mono shock suspension. The motorcycle gets a dual piston 267mm front disc brake and a dual piston 220mm rear disc brake.
The changes on the bike for the Indonesian market include new indicators, a new key and key mount. The changes extend to the powertrain as well. The Yamaha R15 is powered by a 149.8cc single cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 17bhp of power and 15Nm of torque. In keeping with Indonesian traffic regulations, the power output has been marginally lowered. There are no changes to the gear-box and the motor is still mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 was one of the first fully-faired bikes to offer a rear disc brake when it was launched in India. The Indonesian market has the naked version of the R15, the Vixion, and now the manufacturer has added this fully-faired bike in its portfolio. Yamaha is aiming to sell 50,000 units of the R15 in Indonesia by the end of this year.
The Yamaha R15 was launched in India in 2008. The current version, a facelift, was introduced in 2011 as YZF R15 V 2.0. The R15 is sold at around Rs 1.10 lakh, while its competitor, the Honda CBR150R is priced at Rs 1.17 lakh (prices ex-showroom Delhi). Though the R15 is priced higher in Indonesia, the bike is still cheaper in comparison to the CBR150R which is priced at about Rs 2.25 lakh. This premium 150cc sports bike from the Japanese manufacturer enjoys a good demand in our country for its sporty looks and good performance. We think the Yamaha YZF-R15 should find many buyers in Indonesia as well.
