- Shares its underpinnings with YZF R15 V3
- Borrows styling from Yamaha’s ‘MT’ family.
- Unlikely to arrive in India.
Yamaha has unveiled the smallest offering in its ‘MT’ streetfighter family called the MT-15.
The bike borrows its aggressive design language from the MT-10 and the MT-09 which is available in India. It gets a low-slung and distinctively alien-like LED headlamp with an LED-projector. The tank sports a muscular design with chiselled tank shrouds that incorporate faux-air intakes.
Underneath its bodywork, the bike is based on the fully-faired YZF R15 V3. It gets the same 155cc, single-cylinder engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and slipper clutch. This unit is housed in the ‘Deltabox’ frame and puts out 18.7bhp and 15Nm of torque. The MT-15 also sports an LCD instrument display borrowed from the R15 V3. Braking is handled by 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc albeit without ABS. Suspension duties are taken care of by upside down forks; similar to the international-spec R15 V3 along with a rear monoshock.
The Yamaha MT-15 will be available in South-East Asian countries in the coming months. However, it is unlikely to arrive in India as the manufacturer would not be able to price it competitively. It is also likely to encroach the price territory of the bigger FZ25 which retails at Rs 1.19 lakhs.
