New spy shots of the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R15 have been circulating over the internet, previewing the bike’s new YZF-R3-inspired design language.
The 2017 Yamaha YZF-R15 will get a redesigned fairing with a twin-headlamp unit and a blue/silver livery similar to the R3. It will also be offered in white and red paint schemes. Under the skin, the R15 will retain the 150cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. While a Yamaha official was quoted saying that the new R15 will be ‘a step-up in terms of performance and safety’, this doesn’t necessarily confirm either a bump in horsepower or inclusion of an ABS system.
Yamaha's strategy of refreshing the YZF-R15 with new paint schemes every once in a while seems to have worked in its favour so far. Despite getting quite long in the tooth, the YZF-R15 Version 2.0 continues to perform consistently with a little help from the YZF-R15 S. With the introduction of this new update, we can expect the numbers to keep growing. Rumours suggest that the new YZF-R15 will debut in Indonesia before the end of this year, which means the Indian audience will have to wait till 2017.
