Two Brothers Racing has unveiled a new carbon exhaust for the Yamaha YZF-R1M. The TBR S1R is a slip-on canister specially designed for the R1M, and is almost six kilograms lighter than the track-only litre-class superbike’s stock unit.
To cut down on the six kilograms, TBR decided to do away with the catalytic converter in the S1R exhaust unit. Besides reducing the overall weight of the bike, the TBR S1R exhaust also improves the mid-range torque and top-end power of the R1M. The gains differ at different rpms, with TBR claiming a bump of 4.1bhp at 11,500rpm and an extra 3.2Nm of torque at 5,000rpm.
Aesthetically, the short and stubby S1R exhaust slightly improves the look of the R1M. It comes draped in aerospace-spec high temperature carbon fibre and gets an aluminium CNC machined outlet and Teflon-coated magnesium end-cap. Noise levels might be a problem as the S1R produces a deafening 108.5dB at around 5,000rpm. The S1R for the Yamaha R1M is priced at USD 600 (Rs 37,405), though it is not available in India as of yet.
