Yamaha had everyone pleasantly surprised when it lifted the covers off the new YZF-R3. A step up from the Yamaha YZF-R25, the YZF-R3 borrows styling cues from its younger sibling, but gets a different powerplant to make it worthy of rivalling the Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM RC390 and the Honda CBR300R. It is built around a lightweight diamond-type semi-trellis steel frame, which houses a parallel twin 321cc engine. The liquid-cooled unit churns out 40.5bhp of power and 29.6Nm of torque, making the YZF-R3 one of the most powerful motorcycles in the segment, second only to the wacky RC390.
