The recently launched Yamaha R25 has gained over 2,800 bookings in just 25 hours in Indonesia, the first country to get the quarter litre bike.
Yamaha developed the iwantyamahar25.com website to let buyers book their bikes online from 00:00 hrs on 22nd May 2014. The internet booking for R25 was planned to be open for 25 hours and only 500 allotments were in Yamaha’s cards. But as per few reports, within 30 minutes they received 700 bookings for this new motorcycle. Yamaha decided to extend the booking numbers to 1,000 but over 2,020 bikes were already booked. Yamaha never expected such kind of response to the R25 and suspended the website. But after getting in sync with the entire process, Yamaha reopened the bookings that took the numbers to 2,800.
One of the reasons of for this overflow of launch bookings is because Yamaha announced that they would be giving away 250 Valentino Rossi AGV helmets and five Dainese VR46 leather jackets. It was obvious that with these kind of freebies the launch of the R25 would be a hyped one despite it being priced at 53 million Indonesia Rupiah (Rs 2.71 lakh). The India launch is expected to happen early next year with the price ranging in the same bracket as the Indonesian one.
