- Yamaha patents new crash detection and notification system
- Places a call to an emergency number on detecting a crash
- Also activates horn and turn indicators of the bike
Two-wheeler manufacturers have been constantly working towards making their bikes and scooters as safe as possible. In the past, various patents and spy shots have shown brands working on a radar-based safety system which can predict a collision and notify the rider in advance. Now, Yamaha has filed a patent for a unique post-crash rescue system.
The new technology in the patent shows a setup which comprises of number of sensors to detect instances when the rider gets thrown off the seat and is separated from the bike. In such scenarios, a device implanted in the bike calls an emergency number which could be of any third party individual such a friend or a family member. Besides calling, the system also sends the location of the incident to the third party.
The patent illustration also manifests that the system activates the horn and turn indicators of the motorcycle in order to alert the people in the vicinity of the accident. This feature would be of great help if the crash takes place in a remote location or in a dark place.
This safety system under development by Yamaha is reportedly compact and comprises of a simple construction. That would make it feasible to be fitted not only in big bikes but also a two-wheeler as small as a scooter. Now, we need to wait and watch when Yamaha introduces this technology in its production two-wheelers and which models come equipped with it.
