Yamaha’s new adventure bike, the MT-07 is taking shape. A test mule which was covered with black cloth was recently spied testing in Europe.
Unveiled as the T7 Tenere concept at 2016 EICMA show, this middleweight adventure motorcycle will make Yamaha a very important player in the growing segment. Despite the bare body structure, we think the MT-07 adventure bike is in the final stages of testing. A lot of components like the exhaust, wheels, tail section looks production ready. The instrument cluster looks like the final one too, but the lack of plastic assembly around it makes it look like a prototype unit.
Powering this motorcycle is a 689cc parallel-twin motor. It is the same motor that is seen in the MT-07 and the Tracer 700. This mill churns out 75bhp and 67Nm of peak torque. The adventure bike gets a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel – both of which are shod with Pirelli Scorpion MT90 tyres, which is an off- road focused dual-sport tyre. This setup combine with a long travel suspension is bound to help the bike cover some broken roads with ease.
Just like the other MT-07 models, this motorcycle will also get a host of electronics package. This will make the rider’s life easy in trails and also help the bike look good in front of its rivals, the Tiger Explorer 800XC and the upcoming KTM 790 Adventure. BMW is also developing a new F850GS that should be in the market in next two years.
We’re expecting the Japanese manufacturer to reveal the production version either at the 2017 Intermot or at 2017 EICMA Show. The main question, will the MT-07 Tenere come to India? Well, not anytime soon but we would love to see this Yamaha in India.
