- Yamaha Jog 125 launched in Japan
- Sports pint-sized bodywork and 124cc engine
- Will not be introduced in India
Yamaha has launched a new, budget-friendly scooter in Japan called the Jog 125. While the Jog 125, as its name suggests, is powered by a 125cc motor with 8.2bhp, its body style is closely similar to the 110cc TVS Scooty Zest sold in our country.
Now, the Jog derives its name from the scooter that made its debut in ’83 and was also launched in the USA in ’86 with powertrain options ranging from 50-90cc. The new Yamaha Jog 125 is based on the same fundamentals of offering an affordable and accessible urban scooter. It comes with a smart motor generator for silent starts and other features like an optional USB charger and an impressive 21.3-litre storage space. You also get storage space on the front apron and a hook to hang bags.
Interestingly though, the Yamaha Jog 125 weighs just 95kg. This makes it 8kg lighter than the Scooter Zest 110 and a meagre 2kg heavier than the smaller, 97cc powered Scooty Pep Plus. While it does seem like it would be an excellent scooter to be on in the urban jungle thanks to its low weight and good power output numbers, the Jog 125 will not make its way to India. Instead, Yamaha is offering the Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125 which offer similar performance figures and a kerb weight of just 99kg.
