The last week was yet another interesting one for the Indian two-wheeler market. Apart from the launches of new and updated conventional two-wheelers, the electric scooters created quite a buzz as their prices were significantly reduced. Just to help you recollect all the interesting reports from the last week, here’s round-up of top six of them.
Yamaha YZF R15 V3, FZ 25 and Cygnus Ray ZR limited edition launched
Yamaha added a bit of excitement to its line-up in India by launching the Monster Energy MotoGP limited-edition models of the YZF R15 V3, FZ 25 and the Cygnus Ray ZR scooter. All three offerings are adorned with decals inspired by the brand’s MotoGP race bike – the YZR M1. Besides the new graphics, the models remain unchanged in all other aspects. Yamaha has priced these limited edition models of the R15 V3, FZ 25 and Ray ZR at Rs 1,42,780, Rs 1,36,680 and Rs 59,028, respectively. Notably, the company is also offering complementary racing-branded t-shirts with these models.
Mahindra Gusto 110 and 125 updated with CBS
Four months after the government’s 1 April deadline to update the two-wheelers with CBS and ABS, Mahindra has now equipped the Gusto 110 and 125 with CBS (combined braking system). Carrying a price hike of around Rs 2,500 over their non-CBS counterparts, the CBS models of the Gusto 110 VX and DX are priced at Rs 55,660 and Rs 50,996, respectively. Meanwhile, the Gusto 125 VX CBS costs Rs 58,137. The Gusto models equipped with the safety feature will be available at Mahindra dealerships in the next couple of weeks.
2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 price hiked
Bajaj has hiked the price of its flagship offering, the 2019 Dominar 400, by a significant Rs 6000. While the Chakan-based bikemaker had launched the motorcycle at an introductory price of Rs 1.74 lakhs, now it costs Rs 1.80 lakhs. The 2019 edition of the Dominar 400 was launched in April with major updates to its engine and cycle parts while giving subtle tweaks to its styling and features. While the motorcycle is currently available in Aurora Green and Vine Black colour schemes, Bajaj is all set to introduce more shades soon.
Benelli Leoncino 500 launch on 5 August
Benelli is gearing up to expand its middle-weight line-up in India by launching the Leoncino 500 on 5 August. With a retro-inspired scrambler styling, the motorcycle gets modern features such as a fully digital instrument cluster and full-LED lighting. It is powered by a 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor which churns out 46.8bhp and 46Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycle will be more affordable than its siblings, the TRK 502 and the TRK 502X, and we expect it to be priced between Rs 4.6 lakhs to Rs 4.8 lakhs.
Ather 340 and 450 prices slashed
With an aim to encourage the adaption of electric two-wheelers, the Indian government is trying to give several benefits to the EV manufacturers. One of these was the recent reduction of GST on EVs from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. This has resulted in the Ather 340 and 450 electric scooters getting a considerable price drop, ranging between Rs 8000 to Rs 9000. Following the price cut, the Ather 340 is now priced at Rs 1,02,460 in Bangalore and Rs 1,10,443 in Chennai. Meanwhile, the higher-spec model Ather 450 now retails at Rs 1,13,715 in Bangalore and Rs 1,22,224 in Chennai. (These prices are on-road)
Ampere electric scooter prices reduced
The benefits of GST reduction have been availed by Ampere Electric Vehicles as well. Owing to the revised taxation system, the Coimbatore-based startup managed to reduce the price of its products by up to Rs 5,000. The company’s flagship product, the Zealr retails at approx. Rs 67,000, as opposed to its previous pricing of Rs approx. Rs 72,000. Meanwhile, models such as the Magnus, REO LA and both variants of the V-48 have witnessed a price cut of Rs 3000 each. The REO LI is now affordable by Rs 3500.
