The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed a lot of transition during the last week. From Bajaj reincarnating its Chetak moniker to TVS rolling out its own riding gear, every single day had something special in store. And just like every Sunday, here we are with a round-up of five most interesting stories from the last week.
Bajaj Urbanite Chetak electric unveiled
Bajaj unveiled the first product under its newly-formed Urbanite brand and as we had speculated, it carries the iconic name Chetak. Despite boasting of a retro design, the new Chetak is future-ready as it is powered by an electric motor and packs a lot of features. The electric scooter will go on sale from January 2020 and will be available in a phased manner, starting from Pune and Bangalore. As for the pricing, it is expected to be pegged around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
2020 Kawasaki Versys 1000 launched
Kawasaki has launched the 2020 edition of the Versys 1000 in India. The motorcycle continues to be priced at Rs 10.89 lakhs. The only update it has received is the introduction of a new Candy Lime Green with Metallic Spark Black paint scheme which will be sold alongside the already-available Pearl Stardust White colour option. Besides that, the Versys 1000 remains unchanged in all other aspects. It is powered by a 1043cc, in-line four cylinder motor which churns out 118.2bhp and 102Nm.
TVS riding gear and apparel launched
TVS hosted the inaugural edition of its MotoSoul event in Goa where it launched its own riding gear and apparels. To be called as TVS Performance Gear, it comprises of a host of riding safety wearables including jacket, pant, helmet and gloves. Meanwhile, the apparel collection includes T-shirts, pants, jackets and more. As of now, all of it will be available at TVS showrooms only but the company plans to retail the gear and apparels through online platforms in the coming days.
Yamaha YZF R15 V3 BS-VI engine details leaked
While Yamaha is preparing to update its line-up for the upcoming emission norms, engine details of the BS-VI-compliant YZF R15 V3 have been leaked online. Going by the leaked document, the motorcycle has seen a dip in its power figures owing to the changes executed to obtain cleaner emissions. While the existing model produces 19bhp, the BS-VI-compliant motor makes 18.3bhp which is a mere drop of 0.7bhp. Going by Yamaha’s announcement in the recent past, the motorcycle is expected to be launched soon and will see a hike of 10-15 per cent in its price tag which currently stands at Rs 1.36 lakhs.
KTM 250 Duke available with exchange offer
With various two-wheeler brands introducing offers and discounts this festive season, KTM has also rolled out an interesting scheme for its quarter-litre street bike, the 250 Duke. The motorcycle can now be bought in exchange of an old two-wheeler. The buyer needs to pay the difference amount after reduction of the old two-wheeler’s evaluated pricing. Moreover, this offer is coupled with zero down payment and low interest-rate finance schemes, making this the best time to buy the KTM 250 Duke.
