The launch of the BMW R18 cruiser was the most noteworthy development in the two-wheeler industry last week. But what made things further interesting were teasers and spy shots of upcoming bikes and introduction of new colour options for the existing ones. In case you were too caught up in your busy schedule and couldn’t keep a track of these stories, we bring you a quick round-up of the top five bike updates from the last week.
BMW Motorrad launched its much-anticipated cruiser, the R18, in India. It will be available in two trims – Standard and First Edition, which are pegged at Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh, respectively. Although it boasts of a retro design inspired by the R5, the feature list is modern with things like ABS, stability control and three riding modes. Powering the bike is mammoth 1,802cc, boxer-twin mill which produces 91bhp and 157Nm while it tips the scales at a hefty 345kg.
Piaggio teased the upcoming SXR 160 maxi-scooter on its social media channels confirming that its launch is in the offing. It had grabbed a lot of attention at the Auto Expo unveiling in February this year. The scooter boasts of a sporty maxi styling comprising of elements inspired by the RS660 supersport. There are modern features too, such as full-LED lighting, an LCD dash and a USB charger as standard. Powering the scooter will be a 160cc, three-valve engine borrowed from the SR 160, but in a different state of tune.
TVS commemorated the three lakh unit sales milestone of the Radeon by rolling two new colour options for the commuter. Apart from the existing paint schemes, the motorcycle will also be available in Regal Blue and Chrome Purple shades now. Rest of the aspects of the Radeon remain the same with a rugged styling and a 109.7cc, air-cooled engine which makes 8.08bhp and 8.7Nm. Notably, TVS aims to fetch higher sales during the upcoming festive season with these new colour schemes.
KTM was spotted testing the next-generation RC model which we believe was the 200cc iteration of the fully-faired offering. As we have already seen in the previous spy shots, it sports a lesser aggressive styling while the ergonomics are also slightly more relaxed as compared to the existing model. New findings from the latest spy shots were the conventional halogen headlamp and a rectangular display which could be a TFT unit. The majorly overhauled RC models are likely to be unveiled sometime next year.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Ninja 1000 SX new colours
Kawasaki rolled out a new colour option for two of its sport tourers – the Ninja 650 and Ninja 1000 SX. While the former is available in a Lime Green shade now, the latter received a new Emerald Blazed Green paint scheme. These versions look similar to the green shades which were already available for the bikes but they boast of different graphics. Meanwhile, the prices have remained unchanged at Rs 6.24 lakh for the 650 and Rs 10.89 lakh for the litre-class sport tourer.
