The last week was all about upcoming two-wheelers. A couple of spy shots and leaked patent applications revealed an interesting list of imminent launches. In case you aren’t yet aware of these developments, here’s a quick round-up.
New Royal Enfield 650cc bike spied
Royal Enfield was spotted testing a new 650cc offering which could either be the bigger Classic or the Shotgun 650. While the overall stance and a few visual elements resemble the existing Classic 350, the headlamp cowl and short handlebar point towards it being the Shotgun. As for the hardware, a majority of it is likely to be the same as the Interceptor 650, with some changes to suit its intended purpose and theme.
Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 patented
An online patent document revealed a new name, Interceptor Bear 650 that will be used for one of the upcoming Royal Enfield products. The “Bear” name tag suggests this could be an off-road version of the Interceptor 650. It could essentially be a special edition model of the INT with a special paint theme and additional accessories. Meanwhile, the mechanical specifications will most likely retain the same 648cc parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled motor.
Honda Activa 6G rebranded
Honda rebranded its most popular offering, the Activa 6G, in India by removing the ‘6G’ suffix. Now, the scooter is just called the Activa. The Japanese brand started to have this suffix on the scooter in 2015. Instead of using model year, as the rest of the industry does, Honda launched the Activa 3G, followed by 4G, 5G and then 6G. With this new branding, Honda may want to create a new product positioning for Activa.
KTM 390 Adventure Rally coming soon
KTM India is prepping to launch the off-road-focused KTM 390 Adventure Rally variant, complete with spoke wheels and adjustable suspension. Whether or not it will be named the 390 Adventure Rally is still unconfirmed, as the same variant is christened the KTM 390 Adventure SW internationally. Interestingly, our source suggests that despite boasting spoke wheels, this version will incorporate tubeless tyres which are easier to repair than tubed ones in the event of a puncture.
Bajaj Avenger Street 220 incoming
Bajaj Auto is gearing up to launch the new Avenger 220 Street in India soon. Our sources revealed that the bike is set to arrive at dealerships very soon and the unofficial bookings have already commenced with a token amount of Rs. 2,000. The Avenger 220 Street will come equipped with the same engine and nearly the same hardware as the Cruise variant. The main difference will be in the styling department as the former will look identical to the existing Avenger Street 160.
