The 2019 EICMA motor show had us hooked on to our keyboards last week, as we brought to you every important update from the largest motorcycle event. While EICMA grabbed all the attention, a few other important updates also made headlines. In case you missed any of them, here are the top five most important bike updates from the last week.
KTM 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure unveiled
KTM fans finally got the first look of a bike they have long been waiting for – the 390 Adventure. The motorcycle was unleashed at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan and we were there to bring you every detail, including the picture gallery. Sharing its engine with the 390 Duke, the 390 Adventure features a quintessential ADV styling and cycle parts. KTM will launch the motorcycle next month at the 2019 India Bike Week.
Subsequently, the Austrian bike maker also dropped another bomb by unveiling the 250 Adventure which borrows the 250 Duke’s powerplant but shares a majority of its styling and cycle parts with the 390 Adventure. Rumours suggest that KTM will also launch its smallest ADV in India, at a later stage.
BS-VI Hero Splendor iSmart launched
Hero MotoCorp launched India’s first BS-VI compliant motorcycle, the new Splendor iSmart. The motorcycle features various updates over its BS-IV counterpart, the most important one being the replacement of a carbureted motor with a fuel-injected unit. The company says the new BS-VI-complaint engine has been tuned to deliver better low-end torque and improved fuel economy. Hero has priced the new Splendor iSmart at Rs 64,900 which makes it around Rs 8,000 more expensive than the outgoing model.
BS VI Yamaha FZ V3 and FZ S V3 launched
Alongside Hero, Yamaha has also introduced its first pair of BS-VI-compliant motorcycles, the FZ V3 and the FZ S V3. Besides updating them for the new emission norms, Yamaha also launched two new colour options for the S trim including Metallic Red and Darknight. Following the upgrade, the new FZ produces slightly lesser power at 12.2bhp and marginally higher torque at 13.6Nm. The motorcycle remains unchanged in all other aspects. Priced at Rs 99,200 (standard) and Rs 1,01,200 (S version), both the variants are around Rs 2,500 more expensive than their BS-IV counterparts. Also, the new Darknight edition costs Rs 1,500 extra over other paint schemes of the S trim.
Jawa Perak launch on 15 November
Jawa Motorcycles will be completing one year of making its comeback in India on 15 November. And according to an invite we received, the company will be commemorating the occasion by launching a new motorcycle. Going by the hint Jawa has given in the invite, it will evidently launch the Perak which was showcased on 15 November last year, during the brand’s launch. Sporting a factory-custom Bobber styling, the Perak packs a 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor. Notably, this will be the third product to join Jawa’s line-up which currently comprises of the Standard and Forty-Two.
Hero XPulse 200 Rally kit unveiled
For the XPulse 200 owners who wish to move a notch higher in the genre of adventure riding, Hero unveiled a rally kit for the motorcycle at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan. The kit includes fully adjustable front and rear suspension set up, a flat seat, handlebar riser and extended gear pedal. You also get 55mm of extra ground clearance along with rally tyres for that extra push. The rider can also have a peppier performance on tap with the help of a 12T front and 40T rear sprocket along with Akrapovic exhaust. While all that sounds enticing, the kit cannot be used on the road as it is homologated only for rally use. Expected to be available from February 2020 onwards, the entire kit will set you back by around Rs 50,000.
