The last week not only marked the entry of new products in India but also emphasized on the imminent ones. Besides witnessing a new player, Evolet entering into the electric two-wheeler space, we also spotted KTM’s upcoming naked streetfighter at dealerships. There were more such interesting stories and in case you missed them, here are five important reports from the last week.
KTM 790 Duke reaches dealerships
The KTM 790 Duke is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated products of this year. And while its launch is just around the corner, the motorcycle has already started arriving at dealerships. That's not all, select dealers have also started taking bookings for the bike with the amount varying between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. Sporting a design inspired by the flagship 1290 Super Duke, the 790 Duke is powered by a 799cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor which produces 105bhp and 86Nm. Likely to be priced around Rs 8.5-9 lakhs (ex-showroom), the naked streetfighter will compete against the Triumph Street Triple S and RS variants.
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 price hike
Royal Enfield has increased the prices of its flagship offerings, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650, in India. Implemented from the start of this month, the hike ranges from Rs 5,762 to Rs 6,483 for all three variants of the motorcycles including Standard, Custom and Chrome. Now, while the standard Interceptor retails at Rs 2.56 lakhs, the top-end Continental GT Chrome goes up to Rs 2.92 lakhs. Notably, this is the first time RE has hiked the prices of the 650cc twins since their launch in November 2018.
Honda Activa 125 FI BS-VI launch next week
Honda is all set to launch the Activa 125 BS-VI on 11 September in India. Powered by a fuel-injected engine, it will be the first BS-VI-compliant scooter from the company. The new Activa 125 FI carries subtle tweaks to its styling with additional features as compared to the existing model. As for the engine, leaked documents have revealed that the 124cc, fuel-injected motor makes 8.1bhp, down from 8.5bhp from the carb variant. The company will continue selling the carbureted trim until the new emission norms kick in. To be available in six colour options, the Activa 125 FI is expected to be priced around Rs 64,000 to Rs 68,000.
Evolet launches three electric scooters
Rissala Electric Motors has entered into the electric two-wheeler market in India. To be sold under the Evolet brand, the first products from the company are the Polo, Derby and Pony e-scooters. All three offerings will cater to a varied set of customers with each carrying a distinctive styling. Available with options of VRLA and lithium ion batteries, all three scooters have a top speed of 25kmph while the charging time is around 3-4 hours. As for the pricing, the Polo EZ and Classic are priced at Rs 44,499 and Rs 54,499 while the Derby EZ and Classic cost Rs 46,499 and Rs 59,999, respectively. Lastly, the EZ and Classic trims of the Polo Pony have been pegged at Rs 39,499 and Rs 49,499, respectively.
Okinawa Scooters has added a new electric scooter to its line-up, the PraisePro, which has been pegged at Rs 71,990. With that pricing, it sits between the standard Praise which costs Rs 59,899 and the premium i-Praise Plus which retails at Rs 1.15 lakhs. The PraisePro rides on a 1kW BLDC motor which draws power from 2kWh detachable lithium-ion battery and produces 2.5kW of peak power. With 2-3 hours of charging time, the e-scooter is claimed to have a range of 110km with top speed of 30-35kmph in Eco mode while the Sports mode maxes out at 60-70kmph and the range stands at 90km. Okinawa has also equipped the PraisePro with ample of modern features.
