The last week saw Yamaha stealing most of the limelight as it entered the 125cc scooter segment while also unveiling the 2020 MT-15. Moreover, a bunch of spy shots also made headlines, giving us a peek into what's coming up from brands like Royal Enfield and TVS. With no further ado, let's take a quick look at the top five two-wheeler stories from the previous week.
Yamaha enters 125cc scooter segment
Yamaha Motor India stepped into the fast flourishing 125cc scooter segment by launching the new Fascino 125 in India. Besides a BS6-compliant fuel-injected motor, the brand has also bestowed it with fresh styling and new features. The pricing for the new Fascino 125 starts at Rs 66,430 (STD Drum) and goes up to Rs 69,930 (DLX Disc).
Sharing the stage with the Fascino were a pair of sport scooters as well, including the new Ray ZR 125 and Street Rally 125. However, these models have just been unveiled and will be launched soon. Similar to the Fascino, the Ray ZR and Street Rally have also received a new BS6 powerplant, added features and distinctive styling. Notably, these models are the successors to their corresponding 110cc versions which will now be discontinued in India.
Besides making the 125cc scooter segment more competitive, Yamaha also added a zing to its 155cc street naked, the MT-15. To meet the demand of MT fans, the Japanese bike maker finally unveiled the swanky ‘Ice Fluo Vermillion’ colour scheme for the bike which comprises of a combination of white and orange shades. Yamaha already offers a similar paint scheme for the MT-15 in the international markets. Moreover, the new MT-15 packs a BS6-compliant, 155cc, liquid-cooled motor along with other new features like a side stand engine cut off switch and a radial tyre at the rear. Expected to demand a premium of around Rs 5,000 over the BS4 model, the new MT-15 will be launched early next year.
New Royal Enfield Thunderbird X and Classic spotted
The 2020 editions of the Royal Enfield Classic and Thunderbird X have been spotted on multiple occasions. However, last week we got our hands on a whole bunch of spy shots which gave us a closer look at the bikes. The images showed certain changes on the hardware, including the engine which will be BS6-compliant, new switchgear and subtle tweaks to the styling. Royal Enfield is likely to launch these models early next year and looking at the changes, the pricing will see a considerable hike over the existing models.
2020 Royal Enfield Himalayan spied for the first time
Royal Enfield is also gearing up to launch the BS6 version of its adventure motorcycle, the Himalayan, as the ADV was recently spied for the first time. While it retains the overall styling, one of the major changes is the replacement of the 21-inch front wheel by a 19-inch unit. The front tyre is also a wider 100 section unit now, as opposed to the existing 90 section rubber. What’s more, it features a tweaked instrument cluster and switchgear. With the introduction of a new BS6 motor, it remains to be seen if the power figures witness a hike, drop or remain the same.
TVS is all set to introduce a heavily updated model of its flagship offering, the Apache RR 310. The new spy images of the motorcycle reveal that it won’t just get a BS6-compliant motor but also a couple of new features. Firstly, the existing instrument cluster will be replaced by a new, larger full-colour TFT display which is expected to be Bluetooth-enabled. This could be accompanied by different riding modes for modulating the throttle response. Furthermore, the test mule in the spy images also boasts of a new dual-tone paint scheme. TVS will perhaps launch the new Apache RR 310 by January 2020 with a premium of around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 over the current pricing.
