The last week was deprived of new two-wheeler launches but other updates related to the upcoming bikes more than made up for that. One of the most talked-about developments was the Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2024 award which has been bagged by a Royal Enfield offering, again! In case you aren’t up to speed with these stories, here’s a quick round-up.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 wins IMOTY 2024
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 won the most prestigious Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2024 award. Interestingly, this is the second consecutive year that an RE product has won this accolade; the Hunter 350 clenched it last year. Other nominated motorcycles this year were the Triumph Scrambler 400X, KTM 390 Duke, Hero Karizma XMR, TVS Apache RTR 310, Royal Enfield Super Meteor 350, and the Harley-Davidson X440.
Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350 name trademarked
Royal Enfield recently trademarked the Goan Classic 350 name in India. Although it is yet to be confirmed which motorcycle will feature this nomenclature, we believe Royal Enfield could use this name for a special edition of the Classic 350. The name seems to have been inspired by the party capital of India - Goa, which also sits well with the bike maker as Royal Enfield has its Garage Cafe in Goa, and celebrates its annual motorcycle festival, Motoverse aka Rider Mania, in the state as well.
Triumph Speed 400 price to be increased
Triumph launched the Speed 400 in India in July for Rs. 2.33 lakh, but it was offered with a special discount of Rs. 10,000 for the first 10,000 bookings. However, the company has now extended this special price offer for the Speed 400 till 31 December, 2023. From 1 January, 2024 onwards, the motorcycle will be offered at the original price of Rs. 2.33 lakh. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 X will continue to be available at its launch price of Rs. 2.63 lakh.
Triumph Daytona 660 unveil date
After the Triumph Daytona 660 was spied testing a few weeks back, the motorcycle was officially teased last week. Interestingly, apart from giving a glimpse of its front fascia in the teaser, Triumph also revealed the global unveil date of the bike which is scheduled to take place on 9 January, 2024. The Daytona 660 will be based on Triumph’s existing 660cc models, the Trident and the Tiger Sport, but with different bodywork and ergonomics on offer. What other changes it incorporates will only be known at its launch.
BMW M 1000 RR deliveries begin
BMW India kick-started the deliveries of its most expensive motorcycle currently on sale in the country, the M 1000 RR. This exotic piece of machinery is priced at Rs. 49,00,000 for the standard model, while the Competition version costs Rs. 55,00,000. The BMW M 1000 RR is a much swankier supersport offering based on the S 1000 RR. While it may share design cues with the S, the M distinguishes itself with carbon fibre bodywork, revised internals, slightly more power, and more electronics.
