The last week was filled with unusual events like never before. Besides the COVID-19 virus causing a pall of gloom to descend across the globe, the Indian two-wheeler industry also witnessed some mind-blowing occurrences. From the Suzuki Hayabusa getting discontinued to Honda issuing a massive recall, everyday had a surprise in store for us.
Suzuki had unveiled the BS6 Intruder at the Auto Expo 2020 in February which has now been launched in India. The cruiser has been priced at Rs 1.20 lakh which makes it Rs 10,000 more expensive than the BS4 model. Considering the price hike, the changes are bare minimum which includes minor BS6-bound tweaks to its engine that was already fuel-injected. Also, the headlamp houses an LED set up now. Although Suzuki hasn’t disclosed its power figures, it has stated that they remain the same as the BS4 model.
TVS updated the Apache RTR 180 for BS6 which means all of its motorcycles are compliant with new emission norms now. The new model costs Rs 1.01 lakh which is around Rs 6,000 more than it BS4 version. What’s worth noting is that despite more constrained emissions, the Apache RTR 180 hasn’t witnessed a power drop. In fact, the performance has marginally increased to 16.5bhp and 15.5Nm. TVS has also updated it with the new GTT (glide through technology) feature which aids in stress-free riding in traffic.
Honda Dio, Activa 6G and Activa 125 BS6 recalled
Honda has issued a recall for three of its scooters including the Dio, Activa 6G and Activa 125. Several units of these models manufactured between 14 to 25 February 2020 are suspected to have an issue in the rear cushion. This may lead to an oil leak, further causing vehicle imbalance while on the go. While dealers are contacting affected customers for a free-replacement of the said component, customers can also check online if their scooter is a part of the recall.
It’s always a loss for the motorcycle fraternity when iconic models such as the Suzuki Hayabusa bid farewell to us. The Japanese bike maker had introduced the last batch of the BS4 Hayabusa in December 2019 in India. All these units have now been sold out and there’s no BS6-updated model in the pipeline. It has also been discontinued from all the major two-wheeler markets across the globe. However, rumours suggest that Suzuki is working on the next-gen model of the Hayabusa behind closed doors.
KTM 390 Adventure Road Test Review
After spending a brief amount of time with the KTM 390 Adventure around extreme trails in January, we comprehensively tested the motorcycle last week. And after a long stint with it, we have concluded that one of the most-hyped bikes of the recent times has its goods and bads. However, the former outweigh the latter and it’s a value-for-money proposition like its naked sibling, the 390 Duke. Read our road test review for an elaborative explanation of the same.
