Those who kept a track of two-wheeler news last week will know that a majority of headlines were dominated by price hike stories. However, what still kept our spirits high were other positive updates like the Bajaj Dominar 250 getting substantially cheaper and the KTM 790 Adventure being spied. In case you missed such stories, let’s take a quick recap.
TVS Ntorq 125 Race XP launched
TVS launched the new Race XP variant of the Ntorq 125 which gets an updated Smartxonnect program for its instrument cluster along with two riding modes. The latter is something that was never seen before on a scooter in India. While the performance numbers of its engine have remained unchanged, TVS claims that that the improvements in the gas flow dynamics and combustion have resulted in enhanced power delivery.
BMW Motorrad dropped the new 2021 edition of its flagship adventure tourer, the R 1250 GS, in India. It is available in Pro and Adventure variants that are priced at Rs 20,45,000 and Rs 20,45,000, respectively. The motorcycle has received subtle updates like added features in its kitty. What’s unchanged is its 1,254cc, air/liquid-cooled, flat-twin motor that makes 134bhp and 143Nm. It goes up against the likes of the Ducati Multistrada V4 and the Kawasaki Versys 1000 in India.
Yamaha India working on maxi-scooter
In our exclusive report, we broke the news last week that Yamaha is working on a maxi-scooter specifically for the Indian market. It will lock horns with the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the Aprilia SXR 125. The company foresees a rising demand for this segment in India due to increasing aspirations, a want for a different scooter experience and more importantly, practicality.
Although most of the two-wheeler makers have been frequently increasing the prices of their products, Bajaj dropped a bomb last week by reducing the prices of the Bajaj Dominar 250 by as much as 16,800. The motorcycle now costs Rs 1,54,176 as against its previous pricing of Rs 1,70,976. Interestingly, this comes in a few weeks after Yamaha announced a massive price cut of nearly Rs 19,000 for the FZ25 which is a close competitor of the Dominar 250.
KTM 790 Adventure spotted in India
KTM is likely to launch the 790 Adventure in India as the motorcycle was spotted at Bajaj’s Chakan plant near Pune. Although it has been replaced by the bigger 890 Adventure in the international markets, it’s likely to be introduced in certain developing markets, including ours. In all certainty, it will come to India via the CKD (completely knocked down) route and will be assembled at Bajaj’s upcoming Chakan facility.
