The start of the lockdown 3.0 from 4 May eased several restrictions to some extent. This caused a gradual rise in activities in the two-wheeler industry. As a result, there were many interesting stories we covered in the last week and here are the top five of them.
Piaggio has rebranded its 150cc Vespa models by replacing the ‘150’ suffix by ‘149.’ Subsequently, the company has also revealed the prices of the BS6 SXL 149 and VXL 149 which now cost Rs 1,26,650 and Rs 1,22,664, respectively. Apart from the BS6-bound changes in the engine, the company has kept the scooters majorly unchanged in terms of styling of features. Nevertheless, they are now around Rs 20,000 more expensive than their BS4 counterparts.
Hero’s new e-scooter concept, the eMaestro Proto, was spotted out in the open suggesting that the company is gearing up to launch its first electric scooter soon. Sporting a styling nearly identical to the petrol-powered Maestro Edge 125, the eMaestro is powered by a lithium-ion battery which supplies energy to a permanent magnet hub-mounted motor. Although Hero hasn’t revealed its technical specifications yet, they are likely to be out soon. (Image Source - 91wheels)
Royal Enfield likely to launch new 650cc motorcycle
With Royal Enfield working on multiple new motorcycles, we expect one of them to be a new 650cc scrambler. It makes the most sense with RE already having a street bike and a café racer in the form of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, respectively and a place for a scrambler is still vacant. It is a genre gaining increasing popularity by the day. To read our detailed take on the matter, click on the story link.
Royal Enfield bikes to get Bluetooth connected features
The Chennai-based bike maker will not just launch new motorcycles but a few of them might also get modern features such as Bluetooth connectivity. According to our sources, two to three future REs are likely to sport Bluetooth connectivity system along with navigation. This function will allow the rider to pair their smartphone with the motorcycle’s system to get comprehensive ride data. Such features will also justify the higher prices of the new models as compared to the existing ones.
