It seems the Indian two-wheeler manufacturers have already begun making the most of the lockdown being eased up. We witnessed a couple of launches across different segments, starting from scooters to big bikes. Although we covered everything in detail for our readers, here’s a round-up of the top five bike updates which deserve a second glance.
After being spied multiple times lately, the new Yamaha FZ-X finally made its official debut in India. It’s Yamaha’s answer to all the riders who wanted the YZF R15-based XSR155 neo-retro offering in the country. It is mechanically based on the FZ FI twins. However, the FZ-X features an all-new modern-classic styling which is complemented by some funky colour options. Yamaha has introduced it in two variants – standard and Bluetooth-enabled priced at Rs 1.17 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh, respectively.
New Yamaha Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125 revealed
Besides launching the FZ-X, Yamaha also took the wraps off the new editions of the Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125. Both scooters now get new features like a full-LED headlamp and a digital console that gets Bluetooth connectivity (optional). Most importantly, their 125cc engine is now accompanied by a hybrid power assist. The power figures have seen a mild hike at 8.6bhp and 10.03Nm. The official price announcement will take place soon.
2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour BS6 launched
Honda rode in the new 2021 edition of its full-size transcontinental touring machine, the GoldWing Tour, in India. The motorcycle is available in six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT gearbox options that are priced at Rs 37,20,342 and Rs 39,16,055, respectively. Its 1,833cc, flat-six, liquid-cooled engine has been tweaked to comply with the new BS6 emission norms. Moreover, it also gets updated entertainment and safety features.
Another big bike to enter the Indian shores last week was the new version of the BMW S1000R litre-class roadster. The list of updates includes a fresh styling that’s similar to the F900R. The 999cc, in-line four cylinder engine has also been altered to emit cleaner gases and it produces 165bhp and 115Nm now. BMW claims it’s the lightest motorcycle in its class with its base variant tipping the scales at 199kg. Prices of the new BMW S1000R start at Rs 17.90 lakh.
FAME II subsidy for EVs revised
The Indian government has made revisions to the FAME II subsidy for electric two-wheelers. It has been increased from the previous Rs 10,000 per kWh to Rs Rs 15,000 per kWh; a hike of as much as 50 per cent. As a result, a host of electric two-wheelers like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the Revolt RV 400 have become significantly cheaper now.
