    Suzuki gixxer review:

i had been looking for a bike in the 150 cc naked-bike segment since august 2014. I was planning to upgrade from caliber 115 (popularly known as "hoodibaba"). Till august 2014 the crown of the 150 cc segment was worn by yamaha fz/fz-s. But now that crown belongs to the gixxer. After observing its performance and reviews by experts and then its sales trend from september to december, i finally decided to buy this piece of beauty!

i am happy with the way my robin (that's the name i have given to my blue gixxer) performs on streets and even off-roads. I got it from tanishq suzuki, behala, kolkata for rs. 86996/- (On-road) on 15th december 2014. My feedback in a nutshell:

pro's1. Best in class performance: she builds up speed very easily and deceptively. Within no time, i am cruising at 85-95 kmph with no vibrations at all. It's only beyond 95 kmph that i feel some vibrations in the foot pegs. My top speed is 112 kmph.

    2. The instrument cluster is the best in class. Besides the usual meters and tell-tale lights, i really appreciate suzuki for providing gear indicator, shift indicator and a handy clock

    3. My robin looks beautiful with her sculpted tanks, slim tail and the superbike-like dual exhaust pipe.

    4. She's got a great pair of tires. The front mrf zapper 100/80-17 is good, but it's the rear mrf revz-m 140/60-17 that demands special attention. Paired with a stiff suspension, they give me the confidence to lean the bike around corners without the fear of either slipping or bouncing (like in pulsars). I cannot comment on the longevity of the tires as i have only clocked 1500 km so far. Any estimated longevity from the service center's end will be appreciated.

    5. The riding position is awesome. She has enough space for the rider to move around, to sit upright and ride like a commuter and even to scoop back and duck and ride like a racer.

    Con's:

    1. Brakes: the front brake is absolutely fine, good feedback, but rear drum brakes is a downer. When suzuki went on to snatch the crown from the fz-s they should've done everything better than the latter. Rear disc brakes are a necessity for this peppy performer. At least introduce a rear-disc variant of gixxer if not providing it as standard.

    2. Illumination: even if an experienced biker manages without rear disc brakes and rides fast, he can only do it at daytime. The illumination is just not up to the high expectations this bike has set for itself. I am surely getting a projector headlamp in future.

    3. The exhaust pipe chrome metal cover is loosely fitted. Even a slight push from the hand dislocates it and spoils the looks. It's fitted with nuts and bolts but only on one side. That's a disappointment.

    4. Please get me 6th gear!!! enough said. Suzuki totally know they should have given 6th gear.

Overall verdict good value for money. A game-changer in its class.

The white color gixxer looks stunningly amazing same as a hayabussa sporty look. Can make a purchase when all of you get ridden by the yamaha fz. Bit pricy, since a new try for everybody suzuki should have kept the on road price bit low to attract and overcome the competition. The pickup after 60 seems to be very doubtful. Better take a test drive and confirm yourself.

    Pros

gorgeous engine body same as bmw bike, hayabusa looks,

    cons

pickup after 60 kmph is slow.

Style styling is the usp of the gixxer.Easily, the best bet to compete with the style quotient of the yamaha fz. The twin port exhausts add the oomph factor to the overall look of the bike.Neat chiselled tank and good headlight design. Y-shaped alloy wheels look stunning. Led tail lamps are neatly embedded. Blue looks especially good 😎.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox performance could be the surprise factor. The bike surprisingly accelerates faster than you actually think of a 150cc. It is a very torquey engine and it pulls effectively. The sohc engine along with sep(suzuki eco performance) is a great combo. Already getting a fuel economy of 50 kmpl in daily traffic. The gearbox is slick and easy to use. The best part is you dont need to shift gears too often. You can easily ride the bike without stuttering in 4th gear as low as 25 km/hr. 😃.

    Ride quality &
    handling
handling of the gixxer is absolutely god-like.You can expect the motorcycle to respond the way you want. The disc brake at front is very responsive. Very light and nimble through daily traffic. Ride quality for the rider is very good. The mrf tyres and fat forks do their job pretty well.Riding position is spot on. But,the comfort of the pillion is in doubt. The space is more than adequate. But,highly uncomfortable for ladies especially.

Final words one of the best products from suzuki in the last 10 years. Finally, they have a game changer in their hands(only if they care about ass). 😉

Areas of improvement after sales service, rear disc brake (i would suggest the buyers to tune down the mono shocks for better pillion comfort).

Style: good styling with a lot of new add ons like mobile like meter console, dual port exhaust, tank is mind blowing, bigger front disc brakes which are very effective.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox: covers 0-60 kmph in mere 4.4 Sec which is faster than hero karizma, smooth gear shift, a perfect gear combo. Hats off to suzuki engineering

ride quality & handling: comfortable riding position makes its very easy in city(no back pain). Good control on higher speed.

Final words: a must buy vehicle. Please take a test ride and feel the bike. U will enjoy the ride..

Areas of improvement : need rear disc brakes..

I bought my suzuki gixxer a year ago.. I was very excited with its looks, promos, etc. As i was excited it gave me a very good experience at the beginning... But as days passed by i was starting to become disappointed.. I ride upto a distance of 75 km daily. For now i have covered a distance of 22000 kms which may be a little hard for my bike yet bikes are made to drive. At 20000 kms the engine seized which was a terrible dissapointment. I spent around 10k to bring it back into condition yet my way of riding has gone far behind.I'm riding it only at a speed of 60s. In-spite of proper oil maintenance and services the engine sucked more oil which was the cause for the seize. Although these are my difficulties i have to appreciate my bike for its terrible pickup, top speed, great balance, not even a small shaking even at the speed of 100,etc.These are my own review about the suzuki gixxer .Finally i can tell buying this bike would be a great pleasure at the beginning. But it is not suitable for regular long drives. In the city it can be the king. Not in highways for a long time. Have a safe ride fellas. hope this would be little helpful.Thank you...

Final words had a great experiance in riding and had a 300 kms of long journey and didn't feel the pain.

Milage is awesome, i am getting between 50 to 56 milage in city road (hyderabad) and in highways i observed the milage of 60 to 62.

  • Awesome ride control

    Veda Prakash

Style when it comes to styling though it may look like yamaha fz, however it is a head turner sure is, with its sporty look from side view and led tail lamp mounting on top.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox cant find the smoothest engine ever (my bike)( my friend also owns the same bike but he is facing some kind of vibration from the engine), its 450 kms now and still the same feel of smoothness in the engine and its roar. Its is a leader in the fuel economy with 52 kmpl tested on city roads on hyderabad in heavy traffic, and gear box is also quite smooth.

Ride quality & handling once you sit on this bike you will feel like the big man even if you are not though, and been riding it in rain with the same ride control, the only pinching is using the rear brake is a bit risky if you are above 60 in rain.

Final words i own the gixxer red and it is the best.

Areas of improvement comfort for the pillion.

It’s evident that suzuki adopted an inside-out approach to its design. The base components, like chassis, engine and gearbox was spot on. The short wheelbase gives great control and feedback from bike. Attempts are made to reduce the kerb weight as much as possible. The weight is distributed evenly so that the rider will not feel the weight of the bike. It also lets the rider feel stable. The seating and handlebar positions are well thought out resulting great control and manoeuvrability.Suzuki decided to go with carburettor than fuel injection with this model. Maybe this decision is motivated by price reduction. Fi would’ve been nice to this machine. Exhaust is given 2 ports; just to improve the sound of the bike, and the score comes out from this muffler is good, better than other 150 cc motorcycles available in india right now.

  • Bike for enthusiasts

    Sanket Pakkar

I bought this bike around two months ago. My budget was strictly rs. 1 Lac and the other bike i had in my options was honda cb hornet 160, which i quite loved when i test rode it but not until i got my hands on the gixxer.

First of all, the bike looks stunning. Just everything about it. Straight from the headlights, the quirky looking & sharp edged fuel tank, maroon coloured seat, led tail lamps, wide rear tyre and sharp details.

So let's break it down in two parts here!

    1) looks-

as i mentioned above, the bike is a pure head turner. And it has not become a regular sight yet (the matte grey gixxer sp i'm talking about!) i literally had people pulling me over just to ask which bike this is. Don't laugh! you need to trust me this one. The fact that i have removed the gixxer sp sticker and pasted a gsx-s200 in it's place, which actually got lookers think that it isn't a gixxer.

I didn't really feel like i need to do any cosmetic upgrades because the bike is already loaded with details and perfectly designed bits.

The other thing i changed on my bike is the mirrors. I have replaced the stock mirrors with custom bar end mirrors which looks absolutely stunning and gives bike a sportier look when seen from front. The handle-bar looks flat and wide as i have rolled it over a bit to make the sitting approach a bit aggressive, just up to the limit beyond which the handle-bar will touch the fuel tank.

The exhaust is sportier as they say it is inspired by gixxer's elder siblings! the bigger suzuki bikes. Rear tyre really gives it a nice look when seen from behind.

Three things which i don't like and could have been better are-

the bulky rear mud-guard which could be a little more slimmer and give the bike a better look.

The rear seat is not really a seat! but just a piece of cushion that was made a bit longer than needed for the rider and then it was just left in place saying that it was a pillion seat! meaning, rear seat is very small and not meant for anyone but just small kids!

saree guard is given which was not really necessary because no lady wearing a saree would sit on that not-so-comfy-tiny-seat! and in addition it is not at all functional so i got that removed too!

the instrument cluster is well designed & has almost everything you need while riding. Speed, rpm count, odo, trip, clock, gear shift indicator, fuel, and that glowing shift indicator which you can set to what rpm you want it to glow and remind you to change up-shift the gear!

    2) performance-

the engine is very much smooth and pure in terms of sound & performance. Now i have been riding my pulsar 150 for 3 years, so this bike is just a wonderful upgrade for me!

acceleration is amazing, bike hits 60 kmph in seconds, in 5 seconds to be specific. The exhaust note is treat to ears when you're riding the bike.

Cornering is wonderful taking in the fact that the wheelbase is shorter, it is very much stable and gives you whole lot of confidence in those tight corners. And that 140 section rear radial tyre just adds to it.

I've had my foot-pegs scrapped a lot of times in these two month.

I do 110-115 kmph all the times and every time i touch those numbers i feel like there's still some power left to stretch! never really tried it though.

Braking is very smooth, most of the times i use the front one & it's pretty responsive. The only time i used the rear one was when i saw a speed bump right 10 feet ahead, and trust me, it made me feel like i really would like some abs on my next bike! in short, rear tyre easily locks up during hard breaking, so no rear breaks for me.

That's all about the quirks of the new gixxer sp! i have no regrets buying this bike, so i guess you'd love it too if you're still reading this! just get a test ride, you love it, you buy it. You don't love it, you gotta do some more test rides!

    pros

styling, sitting position, exhaust note, acceleration, cornering confidence

    cons

rear seat too small, fuel economy, rear mudguard is too big, saree guard wasn't really necessary.

  • The tale of robin

    Yousuf Imam

  • A ride with gixxer

    Vicku

You should definitely check the oil after 1500 kms if you are regularly riding for about 50 km daily. Grease your chain periodically. Proper services are MUST if u wanna have your bike for long time at a great condition..I personally suggest the showroom services. If you take it above 80-90km/hr regularly then be ready to spend your money for petrol...

  • Suzuki gixxer-the insane beast

  • A ride with gixxer

    Vicku

    Tips for other riders

You should definitely check the oil after 1500 kms if you are regularly riding for about 50 km daily. Grease your chain periodically. Proper services are MUST if u wanna have your bike for long time at a great condition..I personally suggest the showroom services. If you take it above 80-90km/hr regularly then be ready to spend your money for petrol...

Style superb in style and looks awesome

engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox even in 90 kms speed i haven't feel the shaking of engine and didn't see any noice from silencer.

    Ride quality & handling excellent.

  • Suzuki gixxer review

    Siddharth
