I bought this bike around two months ago. My budget was strictly rs. 1 Lac and the other bike i had in my options was honda cb hornet 160, which i quite loved when i test rode it but not until i got my hands on the gixxer.

First of all, the bike looks stunning. Just everything about it. Straight from the headlights, the quirky looking & sharp edged fuel tank, maroon coloured seat, led tail lamps, wide rear tyre and sharp details.

So let's break it down in two parts here!

1) looks-

as i mentioned above, the bike is a pure head turner. And it has not become a regular sight yet (the matte grey gixxer sp i'm talking about!) i literally had people pulling me over just to ask which bike this is. Don't laugh! you need to trust me this one. The fact that i have removed the gixxer sp sticker and pasted a gsx-s200 in it's place, which actually got lookers think that it isn't a gixxer.

I didn't really feel like i need to do any cosmetic upgrades because the bike is already loaded with details and perfectly designed bits.

The other thing i changed on my bike is the mirrors. I have replaced the stock mirrors with custom bar end mirrors which looks absolutely stunning and gives bike a sportier look when seen from front. The handle-bar looks flat and wide as i have rolled it over a bit to make the sitting approach a bit aggressive, just up to the limit beyond which the handle-bar will touch the fuel tank.

The exhaust is sportier as they say it is inspired by gixxer's elder siblings! the bigger suzuki bikes. Rear tyre really gives it a nice look when seen from behind.

Three things which i don't like and could have been better are-

the bulky rear mud-guard which could be a little more slimmer and give the bike a better look.

The rear seat is not really a seat! but just a piece of cushion that was made a bit longer than needed for the rider and then it was just left in place saying that it was a pillion seat! meaning, rear seat is very small and not meant for anyone but just small kids!

saree guard is given which was not really necessary because no lady wearing a saree would sit on that not-so-comfy-tiny-seat! and in addition it is not at all functional so i got that removed too!

the instrument cluster is well designed & has almost everything you need while riding. Speed, rpm count, odo, trip, clock, gear shift indicator, fuel, and that glowing shift indicator which you can set to what rpm you want it to glow and remind you to change up-shift the gear!

2) performance-

the engine is very much smooth and pure in terms of sound & performance. Now i have been riding my pulsar 150 for 3 years, so this bike is just a wonderful upgrade for me!

acceleration is amazing, bike hits 60 kmph in seconds, in 5 seconds to be specific. The exhaust note is treat to ears when you're riding the bike.

Cornering is wonderful taking in the fact that the wheelbase is shorter, it is very much stable and gives you whole lot of confidence in those tight corners. And that 140 section rear radial tyre just adds to it.

I've had my foot-pegs scrapped a lot of times in these two month.

I do 110-115 kmph all the times and every time i touch those numbers i feel like there's still some power left to stretch! never really tried it though.

Braking is very smooth, most of the times i use the front one & it's pretty responsive. The only time i used the rear one was when i saw a speed bump right 10 feet ahead, and trust me, it made me feel like i really would like some abs on my next bike! in short, rear tyre easily locks up during hard breaking, so no rear breaks for me.

That's all about the quirks of the new gixxer sp! i have no regrets buying this bike, so i guess you'd love it too if you're still reading this! just get a test ride, you love it, you buy it. You don't love it, you gotta do some more test rides!

pros

styling, sitting position, exhaust note, acceleration, cornering confidence

cons

rear seat too small, fuel economy, rear mudguard is too big, saree guard wasn't really necessary.

Absolutely love this bike..reached 40000kms It's a beast in mid-range performance. I commute about 70kms daily on it never been disappointed so far.. If properly maintained gixxer could be one of the best 150s out there. The things I don't like are the paint quality and the top end. The headlights have an awesome throw. Build quality is great if you don't count the paint quality. The bike has one of the best exhaust notes in the segment especially when it goes at 70-90km/h even after revving it so much I still get about 37 km mileage. The gearbox is a bit clunky. The bike has a low seat height but that doesn't make it uncomfortable for tall riders I'm 5'11 . The rear seat is too uncomfortable in this model but the new seats are great. Absolutely underrated bike. Braking performance is above average. Offroad performance is also great when compared to other bikes in the segment.
Overall if I get to choose my first bike again, I will definitely choose the Gixxer. Now I'm buying another one as an upgrade to this one. This time an sf 250.

    Vignesh J

I bought this amazing bike in the second half of 2015 for my daily office commute. I used to maintain it very well.
It is a comfortable vehicle to ride on. In the past 6 years, I haven't faced any issues with this bike.
    Pros :
    - good engine performance
    - good milage
    - long-lasting one
    - stylish look
    Cons :
    - for family, does not suit well as pillion seat is a little bit high.

Good bike for my travel partner. No major complaints still now.I will get 58 millage,He gixxer was the perfect shot in the arm for suzuki when it came out in 2014. In fact, not only did it do well for the japanese manufacturer, the bike also went on to become one of the bestselling 150cc motorcycles in the country. Of course, with a name like that gixxer is what suzuki's sportsbike family is called affectionately by enthusiasts the world over the bike had a certain ring to it besides being a well-packaged machine. A bunch of revised paint schemes over the years has ensured the gixxer kept cash registers ringing for suzuki, but let's admit it, the bike had started feeling dated thanks to competitors upping their game. And suzuki has just done that too with the new, 2019 gixxer. We put the bike through our road test scalpel to see if the new bike can continue the 'gixxer' legacy.

  • Gixxer 150 - your city commute option

After a point, the servicing cost of the bike goes up a lot. I have driven the bike for more than 1 lakh kms. It has given good support up to a point. This bike can be considered for an occasional commute. The pillion seating is not that comfortable and for long rides, it causes backache. Good for city driving only.

  • Pathetic service and spare availability though the bike is good. Would have given 0 star for service center support

I want to share my experience with suzuki gixxer as the worst choice that i have ever took. Not because the bike is bad but because the after sales service and engineer's knowledge about bike is 0.I found my fuel indicator complaint during my 3rd free service and told them(thopumpady service centre) to replace the part,But they didn't have the spare parts available, this continued till my 10th service and even after that they din't have the spares. But now i had to replace my break pads, fuel float chain sprockets but the service centre didn't have any of these parts and when I reached the showroom to take my bike it was not even touched, they just gave me back my bike saying parts are not available,I raised a complaint with suzuki and then a person from kundanoor(showroom manager i guess) contacted me and said he has arranged all the parts and will service the bike properly, but when i gave my bike chain sprocket was still not available and somehow they got One the next day and changed all the parts it cost me around 4500 for this service and then when i took the bike out it was not starting,They said that the spark plug is complaint and they didn't have a replacement, Then some how bike started and i took it home with lots of frustration in mind,Then the next day when i took my bike out for ride and filled petrol,i saw that the petrol was leaking from the bottom of the tank,I think it's from the area where new fuel float was fixed, you can imagine how dangerous the situation is,It could have resulted in a blast and cause fatality and risk not only to me but the people near that petrol pump,I somehow managed to drain all the petrol and parked my bike in the parking lot near the petrol bunk.

The bike provides comfortable ride and it has really smooth engine but it's ground clearance is bit of a disadvantage and pillion seat is not comfortable for even half an hour of ride. But reliable when comes to traffic and highway rides and it's digital indicator is a plus as it shows the rpm speed and gear you are riding at along with time and other standard details.

Bike is good not upto the mark. Service is really really poor. Only good looks doesn't make a bike good it requires an excellence in service too. Bought it on diwali in 2018. Average is quite good, giving 50km/l with light traffic. Top speed to which i ran it 106km/h. Brakes are nice. Abs is really good.

  • Gixxer - a good vehicle to ride on

    Anandu

  • Fell in love with the suzuki engine

    Goutham
