Suzuki Hayabusa [2018-2019] Summary

The Hayabusa is synonymous to superbike enthusiasts the world over. First introduced in 1999, it was the fastest production motorcycle then and continues to keep up with the quick young guns of today. The ‘Busa’, as it is popularly known in the motorcycle world, kicked-off the big bike trend in India.

The Hayabusa sports a curvy yet aerodynamic design which has not changed much since the first generation of this bike was introduced. It is powered by a 1340cc liquid-cooled inline-four cylinder engine that puts out 197bhp at 9,500rpm and 155Nm of torque at 7,200rpm. This unit is mated to a six-speed constant mesh gearbox. The power output can be controlled via the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) which allows the rider to select one of three engine control maps for different riding conditions.

Apart from the engine control modes, the bike gets a dual channel-ABS. This unit supports the Brembo front calipers that hold onto 310mm twin discs and the rear Tokico caliper with a 260mm disc. Suspension is taken care of by 43mm KYB inverted front forks and a link type rear suspension. Tipping the scale at 266kg, the bike sports a 21-litre fuel tank capacity.

The Hayabusa’s instrument cluster features a set of four round analogue gauges that display the tachometer, speedometer, fuel meter and coolant temperature. It also gets a round LCD display which shows the gear position indicator, clock, odometer, trip meter and S-DMS map indicator.
The Suzuki Hayabusa has been available in blue with white graphics, white with black graphics and black with red graphics. Two new paint schemes have been added for 2019: a metallic grey and a metallic black. The bike rivals the Kawasaki ZX-14R, Team Green’s sport tourer offering.

Suzuki Hayabusa [2018-2019] Review

  • Good Things

    • Power-packed engine
    • Offers comfortable ergonomics
    • Excellent price tag
  • Could be Better

    • Too bulky for city riding
    • Outdated instrument cluster

BikeWale's Take

Once the fastest production motorcycle, the Suzuki Hayabusa runs one of the most powerful engines with a 1300cc displacement. Besides the spine-chilling performance, it also comes with profoundly comfortable ergonomics which also makes it a mile-muncher.

      The mighty hayabusa

      Harsh

It is obviously the dhoom bike...An extremely powerful machine. I bought it from kaveri suzuki near my place. They were super nice people. Now, of course riding a busa is a next level experience, it is fast, it seems to be heavy but once you start riding, all the weight is gone..My bike is black so it looks good by default. It is worth the price, like if you need raw power and don't need all that traction control and other stuff, hayabusa is for you. It sounds mighty, appears mighty and in true sense is mighty. It gives around 12 kmpl mileage in city and about 18 kmpl on highway. Servicing cost is decent. Pros are that it is quick, looks nice, sounds nice, etc.. Cons are that digital stuff like traction control etc are not available...3 modes of riding are available tho...

I have clocked almost 40000 kms on this bike, travelled more than 1000 kms in a day, long trips spanning from delhi to goa, this bike never bores you, the most forgettable bike, the most sturdy at high speeds and the most reliable. All you need to do is regular services on time. The only thing that's little bothering is the rear tyre change duration , which i nearly 8000 kms , i have already changed 4 tyres till now and each tyre costs you nothing less than 17-18 k and front tyre 12000 kms life at 11000 rs. Overall the bikes a keeper for short rides , long rides like really long ones. Good riding posture considering i am almost 6.3. If you planning to buy one, get it right away. This will only bring you good memories at lightning speeds.

The bike needs to be maintained every six months, the overall cost of the servicing including taxes and everything comes out to be roughly 8.5k to 9k, how ever the prices that you would pay for servicing f9r any other superbike , will be nothing less than 10k min. The standard service involves, the oil change, oil filter change, the air filter , the engine oil, regular lubrications and clean ups.
