Triumph Street Twin [2018-2019] Summary

The Street Twin is an entry-level offering from Triumph Motorcycles. The Street Twin made its foray into the Indian market at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Positioned below the T100, it is the most affordable Triumph in the company’s product portfolio. For the year 2019, Triumph has updated the Street Twin with a thorough makeover, comprising of cosmetic and mechanical changes.

Featuring a blacked-out frame, engine, side panels and cast alloy wheels, the Street Twin has a sporty character. After its recent update, the motorcycle received a revamped instrument console, new headlamp brackets and a new alloy wheel design. Other bits include new decals on the fuel tank and a new ‘Street Twin’ decal on the side panels. Triumph has also added a new matte black paint scheme to the colour palette.

Motive force for the motorcycle continues to be derived from the same 899cc parallel-twin motor that has now been re-tuned to produce 10bhp more, thereby taking the max power output to 64bhp. Torque figures continue to remain at 80Nm. Besides the power hike, the motor weighs less thanks to the use of a lighter crankshaft, balancer rod and magnesium cam covers for the cylinder head. On the electronic front, the motorcycle continues to feature modern technology like ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle and LED lamps. In the 2019 model, the motorcycle also gets two riding modes, Road and Rain, as standard equipment along with a tyre monitoring system as an option.

The 2019 edition also has a new braking system which includes a 310mm disc with a four-pot Brembo caliper for the front and a 255mm disc with a two-pot Nissin caliper at the back. The motorcycle also received an upgraded suspension for the front consisting of new 41mm cartridge forks with 120mm of travel. The rear continues to sport twin shocks like the current model.

In its segment, the Street Twin faces direct competition from the Ducati Scrambler.

Triumph Street Twin [2018-2019] Review

  • Good Things

    • The parallel-twin engine is smooth
    • Quality of parts is fantastic
    • Is easy to ride in the city
  • Could be Better

    • Gets a five-speed gearbox
    • Doesn't get LED headlamp
    • Is a bit expensive

BikeWale's Take

The Street Twin's refined parallel-twin motor is its biggest strong point. It also offers top quality components and a comfortable riding position. However, the bike is slightly on the pricier side and a sixth-gear would make it a better highway motorcycle too.

Triumph Street Twin [2018-2019] Expert Opinion

It’s British, straight-forward, easy to ride and comes with modern classic styling that is in tune with the other models offered by Triumph. But, as they say, there is always room for improvement, which is why the next-generation Street Twin in here.

Excellent bike and amazing till now. Smooth and technical. Looks are average but performance is high. Mileage is additional and super super good for superbike (22+kmpl in city; 25+kmpl on highways). Anytime bike for any-day. Love to ride from office to leh. Accessories and after market parts unavailability is the biggest problem.

      Best in class

A fantastic bike. I had the original 2016 model and did 40,000k in just under 3 years. The new model has greater power and shove and can cruise at 80-90mph all day long (touring screen fitted) i get around 68 mpg in mixed riding. 400 mile days not a problem and can easily keep up with my friends bmw and yamahas. I have preferred the basic black model each time as i feel it is the best color. Test road the new re 650 and it was very good but a class below the triumph in every department. If money was tight the re makes sense and i would rate it 4/5, as opposed to 5/5 for the triumph.

      Deep Walmiki

I have ridden this bike and the bike is phenomenal. Ride quality, built quality is superb. Looks and performance is punchy. Bike looks absolutely don on the roads but quite heats on indian roads. Triumph street twin is just a superb classic bike. The weight is ok. The best thing about street twin is you never get bore riding it.
