  • Yamaha FZ: A Six-Year Journey of Reliability and Performance

    Buying Experience
I purchased my Yamaha FZ, my first bike, in 2016 from Carlton Yamaha in Delhi. The staff was courteous and delivered the bike on time. After almost 33,000 kilometres, here's a detailed review of my experience.
    Riding Experience
The Yamaha FZ offers an amazing riding experience. I've ridden this bike in various conditions, and it never ceases to impress with its riding position and power. However, the seat comfort is average.
    Looks and Performance
Despite being six years old, my FZ still looks good and continues to provide pleasure while riding. The front is sporty with an LCD display that emits a red light, showing all necessary information, though it's not as updated as modern bikes. The bike features a fiber body, and while it lacks LED lights, the halogen bulb performs adequately, although extra light would be beneficial in dark conditions. The pillion seat is not suitable for long journeys, as it can cause back pain. Overall, it boasts a sharp and sleek body structure.
The engine, at 149 cc, delivers impressive performance with rapid pickup that makes riding enjoyable. The torque is around 13 Nm, which doesn't disappoint. Although it vibrates at higher speeds, maintaining the engine in good condition minimizes this issue. The top speed ranges from 115 to 120 km/h. Even after six years, it provides a good mileage of 43 to 46 km per liter.
    Servicing and Maintenance
Maintaining my FZ has been a reasonably good experience. Yamaha is a reliable brand known for its longevity. Parts are easily available and replaceable. Initially, the service cost was around 500 to 600 rupees, but it gradually increased to 1100 to 1600 rupees. Occasionally, the service center fails to deliver the bike on the promised time, and mechanics sometimes expect extra tips despite their labor charges.
    Pros
    - Smooth ride with good seat position
    - Good mileage
    - Sporty look, even after six years
    - Reliability of Yamaha
    - Good weight distribution
    - Perfect for city rides
    - Excellent rear tire grip
    Cons
    - No ABS
    - No slipper clutch
    - Low light performance
    - Average front tire quality
In summary, the Yamaha FZ has been a reliable companion over the years, providing a balanced mix of performance, style, and dependability.

    Tips for other riders

For me, regular servicing and timely oil changes has worked like magic. Maintaining the engine is crucial for minimizing vibrations at higher speeds and sustaining good performance. Additionally, clean and lubricate the chain regularly to prevent wear and ensure a smooth ride. This simple routine will help extend the life of your FZ and keep it running smoothly.
