The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is a sporty hybrid engine-powered scooter, which mainly targets young buyers. While the standard trim itself looks rugged and radical, the Street Rally trim offers more visual drama with the presence of knuckle guards. In total, it is available in six variants, which differ on the visual and hardware front.
Powering the scooter is a 125cc, air-cooled motor that produces 8.04bhp and 10.03Nm. This hybrid engine works in tandem with a battery to help extract 16 per cent more mileage while producing 30 per cent more torque than its predecessor.
The feature list on this 125cc hybrid scooter includes Bluetooth connectivity that works with the Y-Connect smartphone application. This app includes a fuel consumption tracker, maintenance recommendations, last parking location, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, and rider ranking. However, Bluetooth is available only in select variants.
Features that are common across all variants include the Intelligent Power Assist system that is said to deliver an additional thrust, utilising the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system. The SMG system, which is available in all 125cc Yamaha scooters, doubles up as an electric motor to offer additional linear power when the rider accelerates from a stop or while climbing steep inclines. Plus, the Ray ZR 125 also offers an automatic stop and start system, side-stand engine cut-off function, and a combined braking system.
The suspension hardware comprises telescopic front forks and a rear spring, while the anchoring setup on the base model includes drum brakes on both wheels. The premium variant benefits from a disc setup at the front. The scooter rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels that are shod in tubeless tyres.

It has been 6 months since I bought this scooter at Palladam Kavin Motors. I have tested it with a full tank capacity of petrol. It gives mileage of 50 to 52 and is great to drive. Showroom officials are very kind. They provide the best service. Whenever I call, they clear my doubts I have recommended this scooter to my friends.

Good bike in terms of performance but plastic like body and worst servicing in Imphal ruined the game

If you are from Manipur, the honest advice is, DON'T BUY IT. It is not worth the money. The service centre is pathetic - no working phone, no working WhatsApp number to contact them for service booking. You are compelled to visit physically for booking. I bought it from an authorized dealer "Pakhangba Motors". On the day of selling, they were happy as much as I was happy to own it. After 1 month, the scooter starts producing noise in the front part of the body. I took it for servicing and they do not have any knowledge of how to fix it. In 2024, I got a letter from YAMAHA Motors India which called for potential faults in manufacturing and they provided free servicing and replacement of some parts in front of the scooter. I went to a service center and they flatly rejected such offers. Overall, the engine is high-performing. My body is not good. The mileage is also not good. The service centre is Imphal's worst. Don't recommend this scooter or any bikes from YAMAHA in Imphal, Manipur.

The 125cc scooter beast a rival to all the same cc bikes.

I've seen Honda Shine Sp 125 and other 125 bikes but this scooter is capable of beating them all in all aspects, being the lightest scooter in the market when you ride at around 70-80 you feel like flying. Mileage is something I believe is confusing and one department where bikes have some standard, for example, I brought this scooter on July 1st week. It was giving me roughly 52kmpl at that time but after the first servicing, it has marginally increased to 53. But that's the actual confusing case of this scooter coming into the act, if you ride with 2 pillions for 10km the mileage drastically decreases, and it comes back to 53 again after when I ride alone for 2-3 days. The action repeats like that. So basically if you want better mileage you can only drive alone and on highway roads as well. Rough and off-roading also impacts the mileage. It's my honest review after having owned this scooter for almost 3-4 months.

It cost nearly about 1.14 lakhs, looks wise 8/10 performance is good. When riding you feel comfortable but sometimes not. Durability is good but sometimes when jerking it makes noise. when I purchased this scooter its millage was approx 40 km/l. My servicing experience is better than I thought.

The staff are highly professional and helpful. The scooter is smooth to ride and easy to handle. Excellent fuel mileage with its economy mode allowing for beyond even 60km of riding with 1liter. Easy to handle and overall easy break system while still powerful. Is fast and wonderful at takeovers. Best bang for your buck.
