The Ampere Nexus is the company’s new electric scooter that sits on the premium end of the price scale. It is based on a new platform and is available in two variants – EX and ST.
A 4kW electric motor powers the Nexus. It can propel the scooter to a top speed of 93kmph in the Power mode. Switch to City mode and the top speed drops to 63kmph; in Eco, it further falls to 42kmph. The Eco mode is designed to extract maximum efficiency from the battery and you also get a Limp Home mode once the battery level drops below 20 percent. There's additionally a Reverse mode as well.
Speaking of the battery, the Nexus has a 3kWh LFP battery. The claimed certified range is 136km and it takes 3 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the battery. The company added that it chose the LFP-type battery for better thermal stability considering the hot Indian weather. The scooter is supplied with a 15A charger and there's an option to buy a 25A fast charger as well.
The design is conservative, largely consisting of flat body panels and a few creases to liven the scooter’s appearance. It is a large yet proportionate design and manages to look distinct. The Ampere Nexus is available in four colours - Zanskar Aqua, Steel Grey, Indian Red, and Lunar White.
Under the bodywork, there’s a new underbone chassis that is suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The company claims that the frame has exceptional rigidity and strength. The scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, shod with MRF tyres. Braking duties will be taken care of by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. It also has a decent 170mm of ground clearance.
The Nexus’ feature list is also pretty good. The Nexus ST has a seven-inch touchscreen and a TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. Once the rider pairs their phone with the console, they can access incoming calls and message information on the dash. It also gets turn-by-turn navigation. The Nexus EX, being the lower-spec model gets a smaller, 6.2-inch segmented LCD and fewer connectivity features. It misses out on navigation, music controls, and auto day/night mode for the screen.
Post the introductory offer, the price of the Ampere Nexus EX will rise from Rs. 1.10 lakh to Rs. 1.20 lakh. The Ampere Nexus ST has an introductory price of Rs. 1.20 lakh and it will go up to Rs. 1.30 lakh after the offer expires. All of these prices are ex-showroom.
Bookings for the Ampere Nexus have begun and customers can reserve their scooter by paying Rs. 10,000.
In terms of competition, the scooter goes up against the TVS iQube, Ola S1 range, and the newly launched Ather Rizta.
