Resonate ChargePlus motorcycle USB charger
Charging and powering your cell phone and other electrical accessories you carry along with you on your rides can be a challenge. Gone are the times when cell phone batteries used to last for a week. Battery life of cell phones have failed to keep up with the rate of the advancement in technology and depending upon how addicted you are to your smart phone, a power bank has become a must have accessory. However in recent times, the market has been flooded with several external USB chargers which can draw power from your motorcycle’s battery and act as your saviour.
The Resonate ChargePlus Advanced all-weather motorcycle USB charger is one such product. We intend using it over the next six months, put it through heavy usage and see how it fares. But, before that, here’s an introduction to the ChargePlus itself.
The Resonate ChargePlus Advanced has been primarily designed to charge smart phones, though it can be used to charge a variety of electronic devices. It gives out 5V power output making it suitable for a range of devices including tablets, action cameras, GPS devices, WiFi hotspot dongles, power banks and others. ChargePlus Advanced can be fitted on any motorcycle, right from 100cc commuters to litre-class superbikes, and has been designed for everyday use.
The ChargePlus Advanced is shipped in a cylindrical box that includes the USB charging device, one holder, two ring terminals, a quick splice, cable ties and the user manual. The USB charging device comes with a 3 metre long cable, the other end of which is supposed to end up connected to the battery. The long length of the wire enables you to route the charger into your pannier or anywhere else on the bike (or even your car, for that matter). The device is made from aluminium alloy components and industrial grade materials to make it capable of withstanding extreme usage and harsh weather. The ChargePlus Advanced comes with an IPX7 rain proof rating and fire resistant cables, which means that you don’t have to plan your riding route depending upon the weather conditions. It also gets a rugged cover to prevent dust from entering the USB port, when it is not in use.
Once connected to the battery, the ChargePlus Advanced can charge your devices even with the vehicle’s ignition turned off. The port comes with an LED indicator to denote whether the device is deriving power from the battery. To prevent the battery from getting drained, the ChargePlus Advanced comes with an auto cut-off function which stops usurping power from the battery as soon its voltage starts to drop below 12V. It also comes with a ‘delay charge’ safeguard, which prevents the device from being damaged due to the spike in current when the motorcycle is started. The package also contains 3M holders for the charging device which can be attached anywhere on the motorcycle cable ties to secure the wire. Resonate also provides cable extensions to charge smartphones and Apple devices, though you can alternatively choose to use your own cables.
The Resonate ChargePlus Advanced isn’t cheap though, it retails at Rs 3,499. The company acknowledges this, and says that the Resonate ChargePlus is targeted at owners of premium motorcycles and superbikes, for whom this price tag won’t really matter as long as they are getting a good product in return. However if you hurry, you can buy it online for Rs 2,799. Just google Resonate Chargeplus Advanced and it will lead you to the source of sale.
Next time, we will have a detailed DIY report on installation and working of the Resonate ChargePlus Advanced.
