Hero MotoCorp will be introducing the ‘Automatic Headlamp On’ feature on all its products, before the regulation kicks in. Some of these products will be launched during the upcoming festive season.
The Splendor iSmart 110 that was launched yesterday at Rs 53,300 (ex-showroom Delhi) is the first two-wheeler from the company to get the AHO feature. In this system, the headlamp stays on during the entire duration of the ride.
In fact, to make the Indian roads safer, the government has made AHO feature mandatory on all two-wheeler products from April 2017. As per a study conducted by the government, it found out that vehicles with AHO are less prone to accidents as it improves visibility and is more noticeable to the approaching vehicles.
Other than the Splendor iSmart 110, there are other motorcycles like the KTM RC390 and the RC200 200 that are equipped with the Automatic Headlamp On. We appreciate Hero MotoCorp for bringing in this safety feature despite the fact that it puts a lot of load on the generator, which indirectly affects the fuel efficiency marginally. We believe Hero will update most of the mass market line-up with AHO first as they share generators, to keep costs in check. So we’re looking at motorcycles like the entire Splendor and Passion Pro range.
