Tork T6X electric motorcycle to take on 125-150cc segment

Tork Motorcycles say the upcoming T6X which is slated for launch before the festive season will take on 125cc-150cc motorcycles available in the Indian market. This electric motorcycle will mark Tork’s entry into the commercial sector and also be the first proper electric bike to be sold in India.

From aside the battery, the T6X will be completely manufactured in-house at a facility to be set up in Chakan, Pune. The company claims that the motorcycle will deliver a cruising speed of 85kmph with a range of around 100km per charge. The motorcycle will also charge upto 80 per cent of its full charge in an hour using technology similar to turbo charging or dash charging that is seen on cell phones. Tork claims that the lithium-ion battery will have a lifecycle between 80,000km – 1,00,000km or three to five years whichever comes first.

Coming to the features, the motorcycle is set to get integrated on board navigation. The T6X will record distances, routes and technical statistics feeding information to a cloud storage. There will also be an app on Android and iOS which will enable a lot more control over this electric motorcycle. Riders will be able to check the range and even control the riding modes the motorcycle will use over their phones. Riding modes include – eco mode for increased range, power mode for performance and even a custom mode which will enable riders to further customise the power delivery of the motorcycle.

The T6X will enter the market with AHO (Automatic Headlight on) and also be ABS-ready which means it will be ready to meet all of the future regulations. The motorcycle will charge on a 5amp socket but will require a 15amp socket for the quick charging feature. According Kapil Chandrakant Shelke, Director, Tork Motorcycles Pvt. Ltd the motorcycle will have a running cost of Rs 20 paisa per kilometre. He also added that the T6X will run bespoke tyres developed by Ceat for the motorcycle.

Tork is setting up plant and is aiming at producing 10,000 units in the first year and is aiming at a rather ambitious production figure of 60,000 units in five years’ time. Kapil also went on to say that the T6X will be competitively priced since most of the production and engineering is in-house. Moreover, the government subsidy on electric vehicles of upto Rs 29,000 will further lower the price.
