The Mahindra Centuro has received 30,000 bookings since it was launched six weeks ago in India. The motorcycle was launched at an introductory price of Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi). However, it has been more than six weeks now and the company has decided to continue with its introductory price.
The company has decided to increase the production capacity at their Pithampur plant and also at vendors end for the Centuro. Mahindra has one million per annum capacity at the plant near Indore, which produces both scooters and bikes. But capacity utilisation is much below the installed capacity.
The 110cc Centuro has been developed in-house and is loaded with some first in segment features like anti-theft alarm with engine immobiliser, an 96-bit encrypted remote flip key, “find me” lamps and guide lamps for greater visibility. The Mahindra Centuro also offers an advanced digital dashboard with a distance–to-empty (DTE) indicator, service reminder and economy mode indicator. The company claims to have a fuel efficiency of 85.4 kmpl (ARAI) but we will get the official figures when we do the road-test.
The performance of the Centuro with 106.7cc MCI-5 single-cylinder engine is on par with the segment standards – it produces 8.5PS and 8.5Nm of torque and the power is delivered via four-speed all-up shift pattern gearbox. The bike has a dry weight of 111kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 12.7 litres. The Centuro is currently available in two colours - red and black and there is a high possibility of company introducing a new disc brake variant.
“The fantastic response we have received for the Centuro, especially in today’s challenging market environment, is testimony to its strong value proposition and appeal amongst consumers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for the faith they have shown in the brand and assure them that we will meet this demand in the shortest time frame possible,” said Mr. Anoop Mathur, president, two wheeler sector and member of the group executive board, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
