How about owning a machine that never runs out of power? What if you don’t have to worry much about your diet? What if you have made an expensive purchase and don’t have to regret it later? I don’t know what others feel but for all these questions mentioned above, I have the answers lying in my gut. After more than one and a half years of owning the mighty NS 400, I don’t think I have made a mistake. Instead, I see the NS400 becoming more mature and adaptable, as a child does in its lifetime. With a respectable and worry-free 10,500+ kilometres I personally feel the D 400 is the best example of superior engineering which is “Made in India’.

I had recently visited a Bajaj showroom to test ride the NS400Z and my initial impressions were good of the bike and how it has been put together by Bajaj.A few days back a friend of mine came with his new bike to show me and it was a NS400Z, thus got more time to spend with the bike trying to understand what it actually offered so here is my take on the NS400Z:1. "VALUE FOR MONEY" is the game that Bajaj is trying to play with its latest flagship product, the bike I feel is strictly made for people who want the 400cc engine but do not want to spend as much as a Duke 390 or the Triumph 400's or even the Dominar 400.2. The Dominar sourced engine is a very reliable and tested one and the state of tune that it's running in the NS is what makes it so appealing, you just have to open the throttle and the bike goes also to mention the sweet-sounding exhaust note that just puts a smile on your face every time you are pushing the bike to the redline.3. The design is where I feel the NS is lacking and Bajaj could have given a fresh tail section to the bike. The DRLs look good but the overall design appeal is not that great. There certainly are better-looking bikes in the market at the same price point.4. All of this,if looked at in isolation makes the NS a great motorcycle which it certainly is but when you factor in the other options available in the market in the 400cc segment, like the KTMs, the Maverick 440, the Harley Davidson X440, the Triumph 400s, the Husqvarnas, Jawa's/Royal Enfield's new lineup of bikes and also the TVS RR310 and RTR 310, the Pulsar just does not stand out. Among a sea of far better motorcycles, the only thing going the way of the NS is it's ₹184000, Ex-Showroom price which makes it a whole lot cheaper than the competition it has.All in all, what I think of the NS400Z is that it is a very good motorcycle in isolation but doesn't stand a chance against any of it's 400cc rivals and you should only buy one if you just can't spend more than the NS because you can't ride value for money for too long and someday or the other you'll understand what that means.
