  • Honda navi your daily commuter

    Suvajit Ghosh

    Buying experience:

honda navi bs 4 has not reached the showrooms in kolkata yet. A test ride vehicle is only available in the showroom which i took a test ride for about 50 km and i will share my views below.

    Riding experience:

honda navi is a scooter bike like vehicle, the upper portion resembles a bike and the lower portion resembles a scooter. More or less looks like a advance version of rajdoot bobby gts. When i get into the bike at first what i feel is that its not for taller riders. Its gets the same engine as honda activa the same 110 cc engine. So power delivery is same as activa. The handle bars are slightly raised so turning circle is good and that's a positive point for city commuters. Pushing the bike in corners is very confident as this bike is good at cornering with bigger 12 inch tyre in the front. Engine is well refined while riding at a speed of about 45 to 55 kph. The pillion seat is quit uncomfortable for full size adults and that's really impractical. The overall mileage i got in city is about 52 km pl in economy speed.

    Details about looks, performance:

at the first look honda navi is a show stopper as it does not fall to any classification of two wheeler as honda said. It does not look like a bike or scooter but with its own look honda navi will really going to snatch attentions in the roads. The performance of this bike is as good as activa, it gets a bit more power that activa. The engine is responsive and goes up to a speed of about 75 kph with ease. The fuel tank capacity is only 3.8 Liters which is very less. The weight of this bike is only 101 kg which adds up in fuel efficiency. But with an on road price of rs 50000, navi compromised in many things like the quality of plastics used is of cheap quality, the paint quality is not as good as expectation, the speedometer console is out dated. It seems that it was done without skills. Talking about practicality, this scooter does not come with under seat storage or luggage box as standard fitment. The under seat is as small as a regular bike that can be used for only keeping documents and papers. It has got stunner tail lamp which is likable. The mono shock suspension sometimes gets very painful in bad road condition and this is one of the point where honda will have to work in the next generation navi.

    Servicing and maintenance:

the maintenance of this bike is very cheap, it gets six free servicing and there after every 3000 km which is also a very nominal amount. The engine oil and air filter needs to be change every after 6000 to 7000 km and spark plug after 12000 km.

    Pros and cons:

pros: looks, fuel efficiency, braking and price.

Cons: fuel capacity, features and built quality.

  • A 6ft broomstick on a navi what the fun

    Mahesh Yadav

I bought a second owner 2017 navi in may and have done 4,000km so far. It's also my daily driver, but it doesn't see much action as i mostly work from home.

    Pros:

Style: what you might call toy-like, i call it stylish. If you like to grab attention, nothing can beat its price-to-eyeballs ratio. Not everyone has the courage to pull off a navi and if you feel offended by 'log kya kahenge' then the navi is not for you.

Customizability: convert it into a small track monster or put a bash plate and hit the trails. I have also spent about rs. 12,000 on accessorising and personalising it. It's like a blank slate.

Manoeuvrability: it can zip through traffic, and you can even lift it to switch to the service lane if the main road witnesses serious traffic. (not that i'd recommend it, but i love the looks on people's faces when i do that. It's a mix of surprise and awwww—cuteness wala.)

Mechanical: it shares its engine, transmission and essential parts of the frame with the ubiquitous activa, which means reliability is solid, service network is strong and major mechanical parts are easily available.

Handling: it has better weight distribution, and it allows me to lock knees onto the tank. It handles better than the activa while offering relief from clutch and gear changes.

Fun to ride: this is the best of all. I rode my friend's navi and instantly decided to get one. I don't know how they did it, but honda r&d team has actually engineered fun into the bike/scooter. It makes you wanna do stupid stuff you'd have done if you were a teenager. Popping wheelies, sliding the rear, standing on the pegs on rough trails, etc. It's light, so i'm never afraid of dropping it.

    Cons:

Foot-pegs: they don't fold so they get me stuck in some places where i'd have otherwise slipped through. It's also a lot more complicated to replace them with serrated pegs that offer better grip on the trails. The rear pegs are also too much out there and often get in the way when i'm pulling it with manpower instead of horsepower.

Basic instrumentation: i don't mind it much though as it keeps things simple, but i miss the fuel gauge.

Fuel tank: it's only 3.5 litres, and it makes life hell because i have to refill it often. A full tank—from brim to nil— lasts 170km, which equates to 48.5km/l. Once it hits reserve, i still have 40km before it gives up.

Power: yeah! it's not there. I'd have loved to see the navi with the 125cc, which would make it so much easier to get the front wheel up. It'd also be able to cruise at 80-85km/h with the bigger engine. It might also benefit from the activa 125's front disc brake with the 125cc motor.

Single seater: the seat is shorter and narrower than an activa so not comfortable for riding two up. I don't mind it. I might make it a single seater some day.

No community: for something as niche as the navi, honda should've made an effort to create a community and have other fun-loving riders meet with navi owners.

Storage box: you have to buy it; just to complete the look. Otherwise, it looks like somebody stole the bike's engine. That should've been standard on the bike.

I have a blast every time i take it out. And, i make it a point to go for a morning ride once every weekend right and take the rough road. I bought it for rs. 34,000 with only 150km on the odo, extended warranty, and all free service coupons intact, which makes it a steal. So i didn't feel the pinch while splurging on the accessories.

To all those, who think it's just a toy, i urge you to take if for a solo ride. It'll confirm that it is a toy that you want to play with.

  • Honda navi your daily commuter

Cornering since your leg sticks to its body

You feel far more comfier than sitting on those chick scooters for god's sake don't buy those if you want people to actually see you

    Attention everywhere you go

    -

3/4 of the people who see it will hate on it guaranteed

    3 liter fuel tank

Neutraling too long kills engine, very annoying on downhill traffic

If you live in a negligent town, parts are nowhere to find so ride carefully

It really has a very awesome pick up and the best part it needs less maintenance. And the another best part is the look and also it is light weight too. It is worth buying. It is also available in so many colors too. Con- due to small tyres it is very fast so be careful...Best for college students......Have a good day......
