- Will be sold at an on-road price of Rs 1.23 lakhs now
- Scooters booked in April will be delivered in a few weeks
Ather Energy, a Bangalore-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced that its top-spec model, the Ather 450 is now FAME-II-approved. This has made the scooter eligible of receiving an increased subsidy of Rs 27,000. Following the FAME-II approval, the Ather 450 will now be sold at an on road price of Rs 1.23 lakhs; Rs 5000 less than the previous pricing.
Ather Energy revealed that it postponed the deliveries of 450 models in Bangalore which were booked in the month of April as the company intended to lend the subsidy benefits to the buyers. The company started delivering the 450 models in September 2018. While Ather Energy currently has presence only in Bangalore, it has plans to start operations in Chennai from June.
The Ather 450 is equipped with brushless DC motor which produces 20.5Nm of torque and it can reach a top speed of 80kmph. The electric scooter is claimed to deliver a range of 75km on a full charge. It also comes loaded with features such as LED headlamps and tail lamps along with a seven-inch touchscreen instrument cluster with navigation.
FAME-II is the government’s incentive plan under the ‘Make in India’ initiative for strengthening the electric vehicle eco-system in the country. For an electric scooter to be eligible to receive the subsidy, it should have a top speed of over 40kmph with over 50 per cent localisation.
