Our long term Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has been garnering a lot of interest among BikeWale readers. From wanting to know about its fuel economy to seating comfort to if it has had any issues, you, the reader, wants to know it all. A large bunch among you had also been asking us about the official accessories the Interceptor 650 comes with.
Your questions centered on – if these are worth buying? And if so, which ones to go for? And, whether these can be strapped on at home? Well, to answer these and more we have now added some accessories to our long term Interceptor 650. We won’t be answering the above-mentioned questions here – we will do that in our long-term report. But, we will tell you the whats and whys regarding these accessories here…
Tall Fly Screen. The fly screen should help provide some protection when riding at speed, especially when the rider is in the ‘tucked in’ position. It includes a dark visor, solid metal arms, and stainless steel embellisher.
Fork Gaiter Kit. Fork gaiters ensure your fork tubes aren’t damaged from the pebbles, stones or rocks that might be flung your way especially when riding behind someone on gravelly, broken or no roads. These are rubber bellows and come with metal clips to hold them in place.
Large Engine Guard. Made of stainless steel, the large engine guard isn’t large at all. Or heavy for that matter. It is designed to protect the engine and its casings in case of a fall. It is bolted on to the chassis’ downtube.
Touring Seat. Now, it doesn’t look any different from the stock seat, and it clicks into place just like the latter as well. But, according to RE, the touring seat uses 3D net technology to evenly distribute weight for more comfort over longer distances.
Aluminium Sumpguard. Probably the most important of the add-ons since it protects the oil filter and the underbody of the bike. The sumpguard is particularly useful when riding on poor roads or pebbly trails.
Intake Cover Kit. These are purely cosmetic add-ons. Powder coated, these replace the brushed metal intake covers the stock bike comes with. These work especially well on the Custom line of Interceptors, as these go well with the black head lamp cowl and black wheels.
Now, most of the accessories we have left out are essentially cosmetic upgrades. But, these too help, particularly if you want to give your bike a unique look. However, there are other non-RE outfits which are making and selling similar accessories for the Interceptor 650. And in most cases these are cheaper to buy.
But, we’d rather stick with the official range since we know there’s a dedicated department inside Royal Enfield that develops, tests, and validates these accessories. So, not only are these made to the same quality standard as the rest of the bike, but these tick the right safety related boxes as well. The last thing one wants on a running motorcycle is for something to fail when you least expect it.
