- Ather 340 is now more affordable by around Rs 8,000
- Ather 450 has seen a price cut of Rs 9,000
- Both scooters had also received FAME II approval in May
The prices of the electric scooters from Ather Energy, a Bangalore-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, have been reduced after the government brought down the GST rate on EVs from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Following this, the on-road price of the Ather 450 saw a price cut of around Rs 9,000, and now it costs Rs 1,13,715 in Bangalore and Rs 1,22,224 in Chennai. The more affordable version, Ather 340, now carries an on-road price tag of Rs 1,02,460 in Bangalore and Rs 1,10,443 in Chennai, which has become cheaper by around Rs 8,000.
Ather scooters have seen a drop in price for the second time. In May this year, both the models were announced to have received FAME II approval which made them eligible to receive subsidy granted by the government. This had reduced the price of Ather 450 by Rs 26,732 and Ather 340 by Rs 23,959. After availing the benefits of GST reduction and FAME II approval, Ather scooters are now priced much closer to the conventional scooters such as Aprilia SR 150 and Vespa models.
Ather Energy started its operations in Bangalore last year where the company has already commenced deliveries of its scooters. The manufacturer has recently stepped into Chennai as well where the dispatches are set to begin from September this year. Ather is aiming to expand to other major cities such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Pune and 30 other cities by 2023.
