- Affordable e-scooter from Ather under development
- Will get a sub Rs 1 lakh price tag
- Expect the same performance as the 340
Ather Energy, the company that brought us two electric scooters – the 340 and the 450, is developing a more affordable e-scooter.
This upcoming scooter will continue to be in the premium segment, and won’t compete with the entry-level e-scooters. So expect this scooter to be sub Rs 1 lakh. In fact, we think this scooter is likely to be based on the current e-scooters, but will be offered with lesser features. So things like the touchscreen instrument cluster and dual disc brakes won’t make it to this model to cut costs.
The company believes strongly in a connected eco-system. So we can expect the touchscreen cluster making its way for a cheaper app-only based system. Other than this, Ather could also tone down the design language of the scooter to make it look a bit different and sober than the current range. In terms of performance, we don’t think the company would compromise on that. The upcoming e-scooter is likely to get the same powertrain, and the similar riding range.
This upcoming e-scooter is expected to make its debut in 2-3 years. The company’s current focus is to expand its presence, and also expand its production facility.
