The two-wheeler and power-sports division formed by Bosch last year in Japan is focused on developing and supplying electronic parts to the bike industry. For this year, they are offering a new generation of anti-lock braking system (ABS) units for smaller capacity motorcycles.
The new system is called ABS10 and is designed for motorcycles up to 250cc. The new system will be 30 per cent lighter and 45 per cent smaller as compared to the ABS9 unit, and will be available in two models. The one channel (front wheel) will be used for smaller cost-effective motorcycles while the two-channel (both wheels) will be for slightly more expensive motorcycle options.
Bosch says they have worked hard to make the new ABS system cost effective, to equip cheaper bikes that may not otherwise be equipped with ABS. Bosch says the ABS10 has been developed specifically for bikes in emerging markets. The new system will not replace the older ABS9 unit, moreover, sit alongside it.
