Vespa has announced its intentions of embracing eco-friendly technologies with the unveiling of Ellectrica concept at the 2016 EICMA Show. Featuring a blend of retro styling and modern technology, the Ellectrica will go on sale in the second half of 2017.
A glimpse at the Vespa Ellectrica might trick you into believing that this is a standard petrol-powered scooter. The all metal body, chrome-rimmed headlamp and the classic body lines are in line with Vespa’s traditional styling cues. The absence of an exhaust end can, which gives an unobstructed look at the artistic five-spoke alloy wheel, gives the only hint about what lies at the heart of the Ellectrica. For now, Vespa has refrained from announcing details about the powertrain and we expect these to be revealed as the model gets closer to production.
While there is no dearth of options for those looking for an electric scooter, none of these would be able to match the charm of the Vespa Ellectrica. It is quite obvious that the an electric Vespa won’t suit the taste of purists, though it is quite impressive to see the iconic scooter manufacturer get out of its comfort zone and experiment with new age technologies.
