KTM has confirmed that the Husqvarna range of motorcycles will be manufactured in India. The bikes will be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant, near Pune, and from there it will be exported to various international markets. The Austrian maker will sell the Husqvarna motorcycles in India once the production starts. This development was confirmed by KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer during a press conference in New Delhi. It was attended by Rajiv Bajaj and cricket player Gautam Gambhir who was gifted a special edition KTM Duke 390.
"Our current focus is the KTM bikes, but in the next two years you will see the Husqvarna bikes coming from the Chakan plant," said Pierer.
Husqvarna Motorcycles, previously part of the BMW Motorrad, was bought by Stefan Pierer’s holding company Pierer Industries AG for an undisclosed amount. This gave a new life to the dying company. It will be very interesting to see where KTM will position the Husqvarna bikes in India. Will it be above the KTM or will it sit between Bajaj and KTM? Only time will tell.
