KTM E-Speed and Freeride-E electric vehicles to hit production

KTM has officially announced that it will begin producing the Freeride-E electric off-road motorcycle and E-Speed electric scooter from 2014 and 2015 respectively. These will be the first electric vehicles from KTM’s portfolio to go in to production.

The E-Speed is powered by a liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous motor that produces 14.75bhp and 36Nm of torque. Electricity is stored in a package of cutting-edge lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 4.36kWh that is fully charged within two hours on a regular 220V socket. The scooter has a 65km range at full charge. The Freeride-E, on the other hand, is powered by permanent-magnet synchronous motor which produces 30hp of maximum power. The motorcycle takes 1.5 hours to fully charge.

"We believe in the electro-mobility on two wheels. Because offroad sport is our core area, we have developed an E-Crosser, the FREERIDE E, but we are also convinced that urban mobility can succeed in urban areas. Because of the very positive feedback following the Tokyo presentation, we have decided to transfer the results from the development of the E-Cross bike also into the road segment,” said Harold Plockinger, executive board member for production and business development, KTM
