- Scrambler based on Classic 500 spotted testing
- Sported different wheels, shorter fenders, taller handlebar, different exhaust
- Could be component testing for different bike
An early scrambler prototype from Royal Enfield has been spotted testing in India. The test mule didn’t carry any camouflage due which it revealed some major details.
The spied scrambler is based on the Classic 500. But there are few major additions like different wheels, shorter fenders, taller handlebar, different exhaust and a rear luggage rack. These additions does give it a proper scrambler look. But there are a few aspects that says something else. Long travel suspension is missing, so is a good ground clearance.
Plus, it doesn’t make sense to develop a scrambler based on one of their heaviest bikes. The world knows that Royal Enfield is developing new platforms for its entire range which is expected to make its debut post 2020. So it doesn’t make economic sense to develop a new bike based on an old platform.
We believe the Chennai-based manufacturer is trying to mislead the world through such prototypes. There’s a high chance the company is doing just component testing for the actual scrambler which could be based on the 650cc twin platform.
