The Guerrilla 450 is Royal Enfield's answer to the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and the Triumph Speed 400. In this article, we pit the Guerrilla 450 against the Svartpilen 401 to compare their specifications and features.
Design
Both motorcycles carry a neo-retro design philosophy with sporty styling cues. The Guerrilla 450's design highlights include a round headlamp, teardrop fuel tank, and a minimalist tail section. The motorcycle is offered in five paint schemes - Smoke Silver, Playa Black, Gold Dip, Yellow Ribbon, and Brava Blue.
Meanwhile, the Svartpilen 401 follows a radical take on neo-retro styling with large extensions on the fuel tank and sharp bodywork. The highlights include a round LED headlamp and a flat tail section. The motorcycle is available in a single black/grey paint scheme.
Features
Features-wise, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 outperforms the Guerrilla 450 by a fair margin. It gets full LED lighting, five-inch TFT colour display with optional Bluetooth connectivity, and adjustable suspension. Moreover, it comes loaded with electronic rider aids like traction control system, bi-directional quickshifter, Supermoto ABS, ride-by-wire throttle, and more.
The Royal Enfiled Guerrilla 450 comes loaded with LED lighting, riding modes, ride-by-wire throttle, and a USB-C charging port. That said, its biggest USP is the four-inch TFT instrument cluster that gets Google Maps integration and Bluetooth connectivity.
Engine Specifications
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is powered by a 452cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that we first saw on the Himalayan 450. It produces the same output of 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,500rpm, but Royal Enfield has altered the final drive ratio by offering a smaller 45-teeth rear sprocket compared to the 47-teeth unit on the Himalayan 450.
Meanwhile, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is powered by the KTM 390 Duke-sourced 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 45.5bhp at 9,000rpm and a peak torque of 39Nm at 7,000rpm. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
Cycle Parts
Compared to the Svartpilen 401, the Guerrilla 450 features basic hardware. Suspension tasks are performed by non-adjustable Showa telescopic forks and a linked mono-shock with preload adjustment. The Swedish scrambler, meanwhile, gets WP Apex upside-down forks that are adjustable for compression and rebound, while the WP rear monoshock gets preload and rebound adjustment.
Both motorcycles run on 17-inch wheels. But, the Royal Enfield gets alloy wheels with 120/70-section front and 160/60-section rear tyres. On the other hand, the Svartpilen 401 gets wire-spoke wheels with 110/70 and 150/60 block-pattern, tube-type tyres at the front and rear.
The Guerrilla 450 drops anchors with the help of a 310mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc. The Svartpilen 401, meanwhile, gets a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc. Both motorcycles get sintered brake pads and dual-channel ABS as standard.
Variants and Price
Available in three variants – Analog, Dash, and Flash, the Guerrilla 450 is priced between Rs. 2.39 lakh to Rs. 2.54 lakh. The Analog variant gets a semi-digital cluster with a Tripper Navigation pod, while the higher variants feature a four-inch TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity and Google Maps integration.
On the other hand, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is available in a single variant, priced at Rs. 2.92 lakh. For the additional money, you get a powerful engine, more features, and a fully adjustable suspension that can be tweaked according to an individual rider’s needs.
