Royal Enfield has started accepting bookings of its highly anticipated motorcycles, the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, in India. A few dealerships across the country are accepting bookings for a refundable amount of Rs 5000 with deliveries expected to commence by December.
As per the dealerships, the Interceptor 650 is expected to be priced around Rs 3 lakhs (ex-showroom) while the Continental GT 650 will have a slightly premium price tag compared to the Interceptor. The official launch of the motorcycles is slated for 14 November in India.
The Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are the British bikemaker’s first set of bikes to be powered by a parallel-twin motor with a 270-degree firing order. The 648cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine generates 47bhp at 7100rpm and 52Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Both bikes incorporate single discs for braking on the front and rear while ABS is standard. Suspension duties are handled by the telescopic forks upfront and gas-charged twin shock absorbers at the rear. The Interceptor 650 gets a fuel tank capacity of 13.7 litres while its cafe racer version gets a smaller tank at 12.5 litres.
With no direct competition in India, the Royal Enfield 650cc twins will go up against the Kawasaki Z250, Kawasaki Ninja 300, BMW G 310 R and the Hyosung Aquila GV250, in terms of pricing.
