Bikewale’s Editor, Vikrant Singh recently took his tastefully modified Interceptor INT 650 to the Madras Motor Race Track on the outskirts of Chennai to test the new setup. The heavily modified Interceptor INT 650 uses 17-inch alloy wheels (as against 18-inch wire spoke wheels that come as standard) and YSS-sourced adjustable suspension. You can read all about his track ride experience here. In this article, we bring you a detailed image gallery from the track day.
The new setup is significantly lighter than the standard Interceptor INT 650. Apart from the 17-inch alloy wheels and YSS-sourced suspension setup, the Interceptor INT 650 also uses lightweight MotoWings Trident Performance exhaust.
Adding 17-inch alloy wheels to the motorcycle increased the tyre availability, and for this track day, the Interceptor INT 650 used TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extremes. Smaller wheels delivered better flickability, quicker turn-in, and lowered centre of mass.
At the race track, the Interceptor INT 650 ran the same suspension tuning as it did on the road to get a proper feel of the 17-inch wheels and the TVS tyres. The tyre pressure, too, wasn’t altered for the track, and the Interceptor INT 650 ran the same cold tyre pressures as it did on the road.
The revised setup immediately feels promising, and this modified Interceptor INT 650 feels more confidence inspiring than a stock motorcycle. The TVS Protorq Extreme offer a good amount of grip and feel to brake heavily and confidently dip into the corner.
The updated setup on the Interceptor INT 650 features Continental GT 650-sourced footpegs that deliver even better ground clearance than the stock motorcycle.
The new setup took a considerable amount of time and money, but Singh says that it was worth effort, and that he wouldn’t have it any other way.
