- Spied in India for the first time
- Gets USD forks and block-pattern tyres
- Likely to debut around early 2024
Royal Enfield is prepping to roll out multiple new models in the future and one of the most interesting products of these is the 650cc Scrambler. After it was spotted testing abroad last month, one of its test mules was recently sighted in India for the first time.
While this Scrambler is based on the same platform as the Interceptor 650, there are multiple changes visible in the spy shots. To start with, it seems to boast a taller stance with longer-travel suspension, which is typical of scramblers. And unlike Interceptor’s telescopic forks, this bike is suspended by upside-down forks up front, similar to other upcoming REs like the Shotgun 650. Also, the Scrambler’s wire-spoke wheels, the exact sizes of which are not known yet, are shod with dual-purpose block-pattern tyres.
Besides the taller stance, there are a host of other visual differences over the existing 650cc twins. Going by the spy shots, the rear sub-frame, seat, fenders, and tail lamp assembly are all new. And the most attention-seeking element is the two-into-one exhaust system with a stubby canister. Moreover, this test mule was also seen sporting accessories like a small flyscreen up front and what looks like auxiliary lamps placed under front turn indicators. Royal Enfield might offer these lamps as an optional accessory.
The engine of the Scrambler will most probably be the same unit as the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. However, the tuning might be slightly different to suit the Scrambler’s character. This 648cc, parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled engine churns out 47bhp and 52Nm of peak torque.
Considering the stage at which this 650cc Scrambler appears, we expect Royal Enfield to officially launch it by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
