- Interceptor, Continental GT 650 US launch tomorrow
- India launch soon
Royal Enfield will launch their most awaited motorcycles, the Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 in US tomorrow. This makes US the first country to get these latest Royal Enfield motorcycles.
These bikes are built from ground-up and have been in the making since the last five years. The Interceptor which is likely to get the most sales out of the two, is a modern retro-styled motorcycle. The Continental GT 650 is a café racer which looks exactly like the discontinued 535 but with larger cycle parts and more performance.
Both the bikes are built on a double-cradle frame which houses the 648cc air-cooled SOHC parallel-twin engine. This motor produces 47bhp at 7100rpm and peak torque of 52Nm at 4000rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch. The company claims that 80 per cent of the torque comes in at just 2500rpm. With a claimed top speed of over 160kmph, these twins are expected to be a great highway motorcycle. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Chennai-based manufacturer claims 25.5kmpl for both the bikes.
Both these Royal Enfields don’t have a real competitor as of now. It will enjoy this new segment in India as well as in the other markets. The India launch is likely to take place in the next few weeks. In terms of pricing, we are expecting a Rs 3 lakh launch price for the Interceptor and Rs 3.4 lakhs for the Continental GT.
